To The Editor, The New Indian Express. Dear Sir, This has reference to the opinion piece, "Pulse of the Polio Programme". It is a matter of great concern that the Government of India is going ahead with the Pulse Polio Programme despite protests from many quarters. Doctors in India have pointed out that children all over the country have been afflicted with the Vaccine Attributed Polio after being fed the polio drops. Thanks to the live virus being used an entirely new strain of polio has surfaced. It has also been alleged that an

experimental monovalent polio vaccine has been tried in the country without following protocols. Public health analysts are miffed that the vaccine programme has become the mainstay despite the fact that polio eradication depends upon the eradication of poverty, proper nutrition, and an improvement in quality of drinking water and sanitary conditions. Polio is a disease of the central nervous system and is also closely linked with the rampant use of pesticides. It was with full knowledge that the Oral Polio Vaccine has the capability to cause polio that it was launched in the country. Doctors were advised to ignore the adverse effects. They were also not warned that higher antibiotics and injections of any kind was prohibited after the administration of the drops. As per the Indian Medical Association an

inordinately large number of children have become permanently incapacitated due to this drive. The Government of India is more interested in the opinion of foreign experts and is not willing to revert to the Injectable Polio Vaccine as suggested by the IMA. It is also turning a deaf ear to the protests of activists who are demanding proper identification of the victims and a system of compensation. It is no wonder that parents have started questioning the large number of vaccines outside the Universal Immunisation Programme being forced upon the children by private practitioners without a proper public debate, without proper studies of the after effects, without informed consent, and

without a plan to identify and compensate the victims. It is unfortunate that the children of this country are left to the machinations of the medical industry which has no qualms about injecting vaccines containing mercury and other deadly toxins into infants in the name of strengthening their immune system.
