Guest guest
Govt warned of agri-terrorism threat Posted October 3, 2007 14:18:00 Updated October 3, 2007 15:15:00 Dr Carl Ungerer is calling for more Government action on the possibility of agricultural or agri-terrorism in Australia. (ABC) Map: C http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2007/10/03/2049994.htm?site=queenslandanberra 2600 The possibility of agricultural or agri-terrorism in Australia has been raised at a national homeland security summit in Canberra. Dr Carl Ungerer from the University of Queensland says the Federal Government should be aware of the deliberate use of biological or chemical weapons against the agricultural sector. He says while it is only a low-level threat, it would be an effective way of handicapping the national economy. "We should be aware of it and put mechanisms in place to ensure that we have better tracking of animals," he said. "The Government has taken some steps after the foot and mouth outbreak in the UK but I don't think they've taken enough preventative measures to ensure that they can quickly contain a deliberate outbreak." If I came to you and said, "I'm going to perform a little sexual assault on you---a small rape---because, one day you could meet a rapist and you could be raped. But, it won't be as bad the second time as the first time." This is exactly the same thing as giving someone a vaccine, or a little bit of disease. It's nonsense!
