Guest guest
Attention: All Anti-Corruption Crusaders! Please wake up and write strongly to all newspapers and the electronic media about it. That is why I am reproducing below my letter to the press about the great wheat scam. Dear Editor, The Great Wheat scam Sir, India is again importing for the third year in succession during the UPA regime lakhs of tonnes of wheat sparking world price rise at almost the double (88 per cent higher) than the support price creating at $390 per tonne ostensibly to build buffer stock to meet emergencies (IE Sep 5). The Govt.of India could have purchased more wheat at the support price of Rs. 8.50 or so per kilogram to build buffer stocks. This is happening every year for the last 3 years or more. Govt. does not purchase enough wheat during the season, allowing the field free for big multinationals (MNCs) to purchase at slightly more than support price to stockpile. During the off season, when prices rise, the same wheat is imported from the same companies or their agents at double the prices, thus msking India loose thousands of crores every year. Thus, inspite of bumper crop, poor consumers have to shell out double the price out of their hard-earned money like daily wages making the traders and commission agents rich. This cannot happen unless some big beaureocrats and politicians are purposely colluding to make millions through their commission agent relatives, friends or even themsemselves through the back door. It is so obvious, yet no one is talking about with a voice loud enough to stop this gigantic yearly scam. I strongly feel, the PM should probe this at a high level and bring the culprits to book even if this govt. falls or else the PM himself should resign if he is unable to control such and similar other scams perpetrated by his government ministers and officials. It is also surprizing that the opposition parties are keeping mum. Are they also partners in this yearly scam? S. M.
