Guest guest
Hi Health Activists, Some degree of change is taking place. The New York Times Magazine Section included a highly publicized article featuring the benefits of Bio-identical hormone replacement therapy. The article " The Estrogen Dilemma " by Cynthia Gorney in the NY Times Magazine of April 18,2010 is available below: _http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/18/magazine/18estrogen-t.html?ref=todayspape r_ (http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/18/magazine/18estrogen-t.html?ref=todayspaper) This has become increasingly important after the disastrous results of the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) study of horse estrogen based hormone replacement therapy(HRT), that had to be stopped in 2002 when it became apparent that HRT using horse estrogens that had been promoted for the past 25 years had resulted in substantial increases in Heart Disease, stroke, blood clots and breast cancer. In prior years women were told it would prevent these, and the results were said to be " surprising. " In truth Alternative Medical Doctors had been warning of these dangers for years and had developed alternatives including Bio-identical hormones. For details on Bio-Identical Hormones see Dr.Jonathan V Wright,MD websites: _www.wrightnewsletter.com_ (http://www.wrightnewsletter.com) _www.tahoma-clinic.com_ (http://www.tahoma-clinic.com) The Times article mentions the benefits of Bio-Identical Hormones, but does not mention that the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is entertaining a petition from Wyeth pharmaceuticals, the main manufacturer of patented Horse Estrogen's that were implicated in all those dangerous conditions found in the WHI to ban or severely restrict a doctors ability to prescribe estriol (a form of estrogen) that is needed to formulate the most natural combination of hormones necessary to implement Bio-Identical Hormone Replacement Therapy. FDA maintains that doctors can fill out the paperwork for a Investigational New Drug (IND) if they want to prescribe estriol, which has a very good record of safety. This very extraordinary process, is something doctors will not want to go through and be called to the attention of the FDA and their state medical boards. It is nothing but intimidation. Please write to the New York Times magazine section, asking that they complete the information in the article about how a patient's right to have access to bio-identical hormone replacemrnt therapy is being threatened by the FDA and Wyeth pharmaceuticals request to restrict access to this drug. To contact the NY Times Magazine send an Email to: _magazine_ (magazine) All letters should have your name, address and daytime telephone number. You can also send an email to your congressional representative and US Senators. Asking that they make sure the FDA does not limit your access to bio identical hormones, particularly estriol (a form of estrogen) that Wyeth pharmaceuticals has asked the FDA to prohibit, despite its safety record and effectiveness.
