Guest guest
Dr.Julian Whitaker,MD in his newsletter Health & Healing of October 2009 writes about the breakthrough discovery that Medium Chain Triglicerides (MCT) that are found in Coconut oil had a very salutory effect on restoring brain function. Dr.Whitaker's website _www.drwhitaker.com_ (http://www.drwhitaker.com) The treatment was pioneered by Dr.Mary Newport,MD who first initiated the therapy on her husband who had Alzheimer's Disease. She placed this material on her website _www.coconutketones.com_ (http://www.coconutketones.com) Medium Chain Triglicerides are easily absorbed and are converted to ketones, an alternative energy source after glucose stores are exhausted.Since glucose is the preferred fuel source, ketones are produced only as a backup-when you are fasting, for example or eating a low carbohydrate diet-this is the principle of the Alkins weight loss program. This principle has also been used in the treatment of Epilepsy using the Ketogenic Diet since the 1920's.The Ketogenic Diet is very strict and some find it hard to follow, so the Modified Atkins diet has been used successfully for Epilepsy in recent years. The advantages of Coconut Oil and MCT's is that they are converted to Ketones even without changing the rest of your diet, you can keep eating carbohydrates. Dr.Newport started with 7 teaspoons of Coconut Oil, since she was not aware that MCT oil was available in addition to coconut oil. Now she uses 3 teaspoons of coconut oil and 4 teaspoons of MCT oil. taken three times a day with meals. MCT oil, which is obtained from coconut oil is used in conventional medicine to provide energy for premature infants and patients recovering from surgery, and those suffering from malnutrition and absorption problems. It is also used by athletes to improve performance and endurance and by dieters to control appetite and stimulate fat burning. Unfortunately coconut is not produced in the United States and has to be imported, The American corn and soybean oil producers helped to point out that Coconut oil was highly saturated and saturated fats had a bad reputation for raising cholesterol and might cause cardiac problems.. In fact it is cardioprotective, and contains compounds that support the liver, immune function and have antimicrobial properties. Dr.Whitaker now recommends Coconut oil for other neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's Disease,Dimentia, Multiple Sclerosis and ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). Guest guest
I use coconut oil in my daily life too, but I would suggest getting raw coconut oil as the less processed anything is the better we digest and absorbe it. Coconut oil if one uses it daily on ones skin is also great for being out in the sun. It protects you as well as lets the Vitamin D in. But you shouldnt be out in the heat of the day for this. Morning and mid to late afternoon are best times for getting good sunshine. I have a book on Coconut Oil and it is great for info. I will have to see if I can find it again. I pack my books all over the place so I have a hard time putting my hand on them sometimes. It spoke about the oil wars too. I use strictly coconut oil and sometimes olive oil. I use coconut oil in my fruit smoothies too as well as any smoothie I make.
