Forced Chemotherapy on trial in Minnesota

The following nightmare underscores our interest in rights to use

alternatives and refuse government enforced medical decisions.

Minnesota Family Threatened With Loss of Custody and Forced Medical

Treatment of Their Child, For Supporting Their Son’s Decision to Refuse

Chemotherapy.

 

On May 8-9th, 2009, Honorable John R. Rodenberg of the Minnesota District

Court in Brown County, New Ulm, Minnesota, heard the case Re the Matter of

the Welfare of the Child of Colleen and Anthony Hauser.

Daniel Hauser, a 13 years old, is refusing six additional rounds of

chemotherapy for his Hodgkins Lymphoma, and his parents support his decision

100%. The Hausers are dairy farmers in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota and have a long

history of using natural medicines.

 

When Danny Hauser became ill in January of this year, the Hausers went to

their family Physician and to special Oncologists to assess Danny’s

condition and learn about treatments.

Since the very first day of his diagnosis, Danny did not want chemotherapy

or radiation. But one round was given under firm recommendations from the

medical community. After serious complications and extended stay in the

hospital Danny returned home and now his parents are working to uphold their

son’s wishes.

 

For Danny’s care, the Hausers are now using healing approaches to cancer

that resonate with their family and religious values of doing no harm,

including the use of natural and complementary and alternative medicine and

health care to restore their son to health. It was a surprise to them that

their conventional medical Physicians would report them to Child Services for

not using the chemotherapy and radiation conventional medicine has

recommended.

 

After three motions, the Judge ordered a full trial, and the case was

heard in open court, with the public and press present to hear the proceedings.

Closing arguments were given by paper with a deadline of Tuesday, May 12,

2009, and a judicial decision is expected by Friday of this week.

 

The Hausers are true heroes for health freedom. Between the medical

issues and the legal issues, the Hausers are walking the path of all health

freedom advocates and all health-seekers discerning their best health care

options and fighting for their constitutional rights to carry them out.

 

Health freedom is a national issue and Danny’s case is an example of the

movement to protect the right of each individual to choose their own method

of healing, whether conventional medicine or holistic approaches.

 

The Respondents closing argument opening statement says it all: " This is

a simple case. This Court has always held, from day one, to the steadfast

principle of protecting our children. We do not harm our children. We do

not torture our childre n. "
