Join Us for Compounders on Capitol Hill

The International Academy of Compounding Pharmacists, P2C2’s ally

organization, hosts an annual conference in Washington, D.C., to educate

pharmacists about the latest advances in compounded medicines. The final day

of the

conference, called Compounders on Capitol Hill, is especially important

because compounding pharmacists, patients and prescribers spend a full day

visiting their elected senators and representatives in the halls of Congress.

This year’s Compounders on Capitol Hill takes place Tuesday, June 16,

2009. We will begin the day at the JW Marriott on Pennsylvania Avenue where a

distinguished member of Congress speaks to our group. Following the

breakfast event, we will ride to Capitol Hill together and participate in

meetings with our elected members of Congress. IACP makes it easy to

attend—we

schedule your congressional meetings for you and provide you with talking

points. All you need to do is come ready to protect access to your

compounded medicine!

Patients and prescribers are charged a small fee of $95 to cover your

breakfast and costs associated with planning the lobby day.

The Wall Street Journal Op-Ed: BHRT Physician Allies

On March 16, _The Wall Street Journal ran an op-ed article_

straight

on bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT).

Drs. Erika Schwartz, Kent Holtorf and David Brownstein wrote this op-ed

after The Wall Street Journal recently published an article containing many

errors and misconceptions regarding compounded medicines and menopause

treatment.

The op-ed explains study results released in 2002 by the National

Institutes of Health that proved synthetic hormone medicines have serious

negative

effects. Following this revelation, Wyeth Pharmaceutical’s synthetic

hormone products (Premarin, Prempro and Provera) experienced plummeting sales.

Since that time, Wyeth has extensively lobbied the Food and Drug

Administration (FDA) to block bioidentical alternatives (BHRT) to its dwindling

synthetic hormone market.

The physicians explain the current broken state of the medical

establishment and assert: “The medical establishment must stop kowtowing to

drug

companies and start serving women's best interests — and that involves widely

prescribing bioidentical hormones. This will lead to healthier, happier women

and, in the long run, help reduce America's skyrocketing health-care costs.
