Guest guest
Hi Health Activists, The climate of fear surrounding the perceived Swine Flu is not justified by the level of reported cases, which is quite small compared to the normal daily mortality statistics from ordinary flu or illness. Even in Mexico, the numbers of fatalities is small in absolute terms and unknown in comparison to these same Mexican Communities last year or last week. While great media attention is being given to a possible new flu strain, I received a disturbing report from one of my list rs from Oregon who reported that a neighbor had contracted a human infection similar to Mad Cow Disease. Hi I think everyone should know that Mad Cow is still a problem with beef and lamb. My neighbor had noticed he could see the words on his computer but suddenly could not understand their meaning. He went to the neurologist and they started every test there is. Nothing was indicated. Then he lost the ability to compute. He could tell how many 5s in 100 and how many 5s in 35, but could not figure out how many 5s in 135. Then his body went flaccid over the days and his speech slurred. Another neighbor went to visit him and he said " Jerry (name changed) was in his chair but Jerry was not there. " Now tests reveal his brain looks like a sponge w lots of holes in it--typical of mad cow. A sample has been sent to the CDC in Spokane. His wife has decided to pull the plug on him in the hospital. The whole episode took about 2 months, standard for the fast-acting variant of Jacob-Creuzfeld disease, which is mad cow, which is bovine spongiform encephalitis (not sure of spelling). Surely this has enormous implications and could be terrifying for those who have been eating beef and/or lamb all these years. Mad Cow Disease came about when factory farms began to feed their livestock, the bodies of other dead animals, that are always around on large feed lot operations, it cuts costs and is one of the ways to promote " recycling. " Our health authorities do not pay attention to this, but a wise consumer should. It makes vegetarianism look better every day.. Most people with an intact immune system should be able to withstand infections. It might be a good idea to increase your intake of Vitamin C, Echinacea and Zinc. But in the long run, people will have to have their immunity reinforced by access to healthy foods. Sadly, many of our lead government agencies have not been as aggressive as they should be in protecting the integrity of the food supply, especially when agribusiness and the factory farms have been allowed to use newer " cheaper and more plentiful " ingredients to grow crops and raise livestock.
