Guest guest
Dear Friends, Sai Ram. I am sharing with you some information, which reached me a few months ago as a part of my book review activity. The agency then followed it up with two wonderful books, " From Fatigued to Fantastic - The Complete Guide to overcoming Chronic Exhaustion etc. " by Jacob Teitelbaum, M.D., Medical Director of the Fibromyalgia and Fatigue Centers (ISBN - 978-1-58333-289-4), published by Avery a part of Penguin Group (www.penguin.com) and recently, " The Sinatra Solution - Metabolic Cardiology " by Stephen T.Sinatra, M.D., F.A.C.C (ISBN - 978-1-59120-158-), published by Basic Health Publications Inc. The role of D-Ribose in the production of ATP (the energy molecule at the cellular level) is explained in the press releases given below. I am still going through both the books and a formal review will take a few more months. However, I found both the books sufficiently good and the credentials of the authors (both are board certified doctors) are sufficiently good that I felt that the information should be shared immediately. I would request those interested to check the books (the first book is for those suffering from Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and the second book is for those who are suffering from Congested Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathy etc.) and disucss with their own doctors the suggestions given regarding supplementation with D-Ribose, Coenzyme Q10 and L-Carnitine. You can check the books through www.amazon.com and through googlepages etc., or in your library or book store. Sai Ram. With Reiki filled blessings and best wishes, and apologies for the rather long mail, Swamy Holistic Healer, Reiki Master and Book Reviewer www.freewebs.com/svswamy ---- Dear S.V.Swamy Swarna, Freelance Journalist: Today more than ever Americans are starved for energy. From Baby Boomers experiencing daily mid-day dips to growing numbers with congestive heart failure ( " The Failing Heart - An Engine Out of Fuel, " New England Journal of Medicine 356; 11, March 15, 2007), the basic culprit appears to be metabolic lack of energy. Now the energy equation is changing with the availability of a unique, 5-carbon sugar that's helping people combat fatigue. D-Ribose, used to treat congestive heart failure, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and fibromyalgia, is also helping athletes, weekend warriors, busy moms, and many who want a natural supplement to maintain the energy they need to lead busy lives. Two press releases below: The first on D-ribose for fitness, the second on D-ribose for heart attack patients. Warm regards, Leslie Media contacts: Dean Draznin Communications, Inc. Fatigue, sluggishness, and general feelings of exhaustion are common complaints. But there's good news for those who need a boost. Clinical studies are showing that D-ribose, a unique, five-carbon sugar, can help regenerate energy levels in tired muscles, including our hearts. Unlike glucose, D-ribose has an important relationship with DNA, RNA, and ATP, the " energy currency " of the cells. ATP is crucial for maintaining the integrity and function of every cell, which is necessary for day-to-day health. Ribose is one of the essential components of the ATP molecule. Everyday situations arise in which cellular energy levels are lowered, which can ultimately affect functional performance. A Q & A on Dr. Andrew Weil's Web site (www.drweil.com, enter " ribose " in the search box--top right part of the page) details much of the science behind this breakthrough natural supplement. Although ribose is made naturally inside the body, its production is slow and limited by several enzymes that are in short supply in heart and muscle cells. Normally, this is not a problem except when hearts or muscles are challenged by the stress of exercise or lack of oxygen due to cardiovascular disease, circulatory disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome or fibromyalgia. If the energy metabolism process isn't working properly, it drains energy reserves and depletes the cellular energy pool. This frequently leads to pain, soreness, stiffness and an overall feeling of fatigue. Supplementing these stressed cells with D-ribose restores cellular energy. " Ribose has shown a benefit in medical conditions in which ATP levels are compromised, and also in individuals undergoing high-intensity exercise sessions, " says John St. Cyr, MD, PhD, medical director of Bioenergy Life Science. " D-ribose is being used in the medical field, so it's fair to say that it could be of significant importance for the recovery of ATP levels in the muscles of weekend warriors and athletes. " For example, research from Harvard Medical School* has examined the effect of endurance sports on cardiovascular health, focusing specifically on marathon running and cardiac (heart) function. Some marathon runners have been shown to have an abnormality in their heart function if their training period does not exceed 40 miles per week. Since ribose has been shown to aid in cardiac functional recovery, the supplementation of this ingredient for runners and others engaging in rigorous exercise could offer the needed benefits by increasing deficient cellular energy stores. Serious athletes, " weekend warriors, " and those who experience the afternoon slump all experience benefits from D-ribose. According to Jose Antonio, Ph.D., CEO of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, " Previous work I conducted on the dietary supplement ribose demonstrated that regular supplementation helped muscular performance in a group of recreational bodybuilders. Thus, there may be an application for this special sugar throughout the athletic population. " " I have incorporated D-Ribose into my plan along with a well-balanced diet and it has really improved my performance, " says Eric " Booty " Butorac, International tennis doubles champion. " My energy levels in both practice and match play are not only higher, but much more consistent. " Butorac and teammate Jamie Murray are ranked #14 in the world as a doubles team. D-Ribose is already used in a wide range of functional foods including Glaceau Vitamin Water and Vitamin energy drinks, PepsiCo - MDX Sugar Free, and Detour energy bar. ### *http://www.news.harvard.edu/gazette/2007/02.01/99-marathon.html Media contacts: Dean Draznin Communications, Inc. In some cases, they may be candidates for an alternative surgery using an " off-pump " cardiopulmonary bypass (OPCAB) technique, which eliminates the use of a heart-lung machine. Still, the surgery carries many risks due, in part, to a depletion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which cells use as their primary source of energy. But because of the damage caused by heart attacks the risks of surgery may be too high. A new study(1) led by David Perkowski, MD, Susan Wagner, RN, and John St. Cyr, MD, PhD shows that heart attack off-pump bypass surgery patients who were treated with an oral D-ribose supplement before surgery demonstrated significant improvements in their cardiac indices, a measure of heart pump function. Dr. Perkowski and his colleagues recently presented the study at the 13th World Congress on Heart Disease in Vancouver, BC. " Our findings are particularly significant for increasing and maximizing the energy and integrity of the heart, " explained Dr. Perkowski, Chief of Cardiothoracic Surgery at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, Laguna Hills, CA. " OPCAB with supplemental D-ribose resulted in a 40% greater increase in cardiac indices post-operatively compared to the baseline, which has historically demonstrated a 13% improvement. " Cardiothoracic surgeon Perkowski is encouraged by the added benefit that D-ribose offers OPCAB patients, particularly for those with acute myocardial infarction, or heart attack. " There's always a risk with open heart surgery, but by incorporating the use of D-ribose we increased the vitality of the heart, which improved heart function, " said Dr. Perkowski. D-Ribose is a unique sugar made by the body to synthesize many important compounds, including DNA, RNA, and, most importantly, ATP, the " energy currency " of the cells. ATP is critical to health and maintaining normal energy-dependent body functions. Ribose is the essential component in the making of ATP. D-Ribose has already been shown to increase functional capacity for patients with congestive heart failure (CHF) by improving diastolic heart function, ventilation, exercise capacity, and oxygen uptake efficiency. In addition, another team presented a study(2) showing how D-ribose and folic acid aided right ventricular diastolic function in induced pulmonary hypertension. " We found that a combination of D-ribose and folic acid helped hearts stressed by pulmonary hypertension to pump more effectively, " said John St. Cyr, MD, PhD, medical director of Bioenergy Life Science, which provided the D-ribose. " The right ventricle pumps blood to the lungs and with pulmonary hypertension the ventricle must work harder. The use of ribose and folic acid benefited these stressed ventricles. " Corvalen, which was used in the study, is a proprietary D-ribose product of Bioenergy Life Science, Inc. (http://www.bioenergy.com), a privately held Minneapolis-based life sciences company whose core technology lies in the development and commercialization of products based on the physiological benefits of D-ribose in health and wellness. ### 1) D.
