The most interesting and innovative acupuncture treatment approach to treating thyroid disease, including Grave's Disease, to come to my attention recently is available in Kiiko Matsumoto and David Euler's fascinating new book, KIIKO MATSUMOTO'S CLINICAL STRATEGIES: IN THE SPIRIT OF MASTER NAGANO,available from Kiiko Matsumoto International, 8 Centre St, Natick MA 01760 (on the web at kiiko.com).

Herbal medicine is very effective for treating Grave's disease.

Diet:

Green vegetables and Whole Grains are very important as is nutritional yeast.

Please avoid iodized salt and coffee/caffeine. Great foods for you would include; brocolli , brussel sprouts , cabbage , cauliflower , kale , mustard greens , peaches , pears , rutabagas , soy beans , spinach , turnips , onions , and bitter almond.

Essential fatty acids are also very helpful so I’d recommend taking Evening Primrose oil and also Eating Hemp Seeds.

Exercisize:

Water stepping is very important , try to do it for at least one minute per day. You step high alternating legs , bringing your knee as close to your chest and as high in the air as possible.

Perspiration is important so other exercises and saunas and steam baths would be great.

Herbal Therapy:

Bugleweed- if you cannot find Bugleweed, Gypsywort may substitute. Use 30-40 drops, 3x per day.

Lemon Balm- . Use 5 drops , 2x a day

Chickweed, Nettle Seeds and Seaweeds nourish and help balance the thyroid but avoid Dulse.

You can also make a decoction of equal parts Oak Bark and Male Fern Root and drink 1 to 3 x a day.

Homeopathy: This ca be added as a support therapy for Grave's Disease.

Lycopus Virginianus

Natrum Muriaticum

Other Recommendations:

You should ask for a comprehensive stool and digestive analysis from your doctor to determine how well you are currently absorbing different nutrients , as your condition can adversely affection digestive absorbstion and we may have to have you on other supplements to compensate such as PABA.

With only one caveat. The patient needs professional monitoring. The Thyroid affects all other vital functions. So, any self-treatment, is dangerous, unless you are really knowledgeable or really adventurous.

Why did you choose those particular herbs Kim?

All the diseases you mention have one thing

in common: they are auto-immune conditions.

I have never yet met a person with an auto-immune

disease who had perfect digestion.

Getting your digestion in tip top shape is a great

way to start with any health problem!

Are you taking digestive enzymes?

How is your elimination?

"Leaky gut" is almost always a factor.

Incompletely digested particles of food

floating around in the bloodstream confuse

the immune system!
