Somebody recently asked me about a way to stop bleeding and wound problems so this week I feature a natural cure found in homes , Cayenne Pepper. You can also get it easily from health stores. Also for all those constipated sitting in the loo for endless hours, squeeze out the juice of a green olive every day, drink it and within 5 minutes, your bowels will cry out a nature's call. Hope this issue makes for healthy reading. =========================================================== 2. Natural Health Tips a) Brew Golden Seal to heal Canker Sores ! Canker sores can be a pesky problem especially when you are fond of Mozzarella Cheese on Pizzas and Lemon Drops. These mouth ulcers can be painful and many a times won't heal for 10 to 15 days. Make a strong tea of GoldenSeal root (available at health food stores) and use it as a mouthwash. Or you can make a paste of it and apply directly to the sore.Goldenseal is antiseptic, astringent and very effective. Alternatively, you can take 1/2 a cup of chilled milk and swish it around the mouth 2 times a day. This will sooth the sore and gives speedy healing. Eating plain Unflavoured Yoghurt (Curd) is also soothing. ~~~~~~~~~ b) Pep Up your life with Cayenne Pep-per ! Cayenne of the Capsicum Species (other names : Capsicum annuum, paprika) was introduced into traditional Indian Ayurvedic medicine as well as traditional Chinese, Japanese, and Korean medicines, respectively. Ancient Ayurveda suggests that a combi -nation of cayenne, garlic, and liquid amber can be used exter -nally and effectively in form of a paste as a rubefacient (agent which reddens the skin) and local stimulant. It is also combined with mustard seed in a paste form used as a counter -irritant. Cayenne is a powerful healer for all wounds and bleeding problems. Cayenne is known to be good for painful muscle spasms in areas of shoulder, arm, and spine of adults and children. Prepara -tions are used to treat arthritis, rheumatism, neuralgia, lumbago, and chilblains. It is also used as a deterrent for thumb sucking or nail biting in children.You can get Cayenne pepper in different varieties at vitamins.com ~~~~~~~~~ c) Flush out Gout. Drink lots of water ! Gout can seem excruciating especially when it is in the big toe. Its is a type of arthritis that strikes often at night, turning the skin red-hot and leaving the affected area swollen and tender. It is caused by plebeian uric acid. Large amounts of fluid especially water can help flush excess uric acid from your system before it can do any harm. For best results, have five or six glasses a day. Lots of water may also help discourage the kidney stones that gout patients are prone to. Another good way to take in sufficient liquid is with herbal teas. They're free of caffeine and calories, so large amounts won't make you jittery or pile on unwanted pounds. Brew as usual and drink often. Recipe This Fortnight : Soya Upma ( light healthy breakfast for the diabetic community) Ingredients: 1 cup Soya (nutrella, etc.) granules 1/2 cup Wheat bran or semolina (rava) 2 Green chillies finely chopped 1 Onions finely chopped 1/2 tsp. Ginger grated 1 stalk Curry leaves 1 tbsp. Coriander finely chopped 3-4 Tomato slices 1/2 tsp. Each cumin & mustard seeds 1/2 tsp. Each channa & udad dals (bengal gram & black gram dals) 1/4 tsp. Turmeric powder 3-4 Pinches asafoetida 1 tbsp. Oil Salt to taste 2 tsp. Lemon juice Method: Roast rava in a heavy pan, stirring continuously, till aroma exudes. Empty and keep aside. Roast granules in same pan, stirring continuously, till warm. Empty and keep aside. Heat oil in same pan, add dals, stir for few seconds. Add seeds, allow to splutter. Add ginger, chillies, curry leaves, chopped onion. Stir till onion is tender. Add rava and soya granules. Stir for a minute. Add all other ingredients , except lemon juice, tomato and coriander. Add 2 cups boiling water, stir to avoid lumps. Use a longhandled spoon, to avoid the splashing that may be caused. Add more water if necessary, to cook the rava and granules. Add lemon juice and coriander. Mix well. Cover and cook on low for 2-3 minutes. Garnish with tomato slices. Serve piping hot.
