Guest guest
Bonnie I have never directly dealt with this. Possibly because when I see people they are already doing yoga so they are strengthening themselves while losing weight. I would definitely do the regimen Dr. Bhate suggested. Doing yoga certainly will not make the problem worse. I would suggest exercises that work the core of the body like doing situp type exercises and leg raises. I teach Kundalini Yoga which takes a little different approach than Hatha. The exercises are taught in Kriyas or sets or exercises put together many years ago by yoga masters. These Kriyas are a set of exercises that specific for a certain result. I will give you an example of a short kriya to turn emotion into devotion. 1. Lay on stomach and make a fist with hands. Put under legs where pelvis meets leg. Raise legs up into Locust Pose. Do long DEEP breathing for 3 minutes. Relax for 2 minutes. 2. Lay on back. Raise legs and then torso into shoulder stand. Kick buttocks with alternate legs while breathing DEEPLY almost like breath of fire with the rhythm of the kick. Do for 3 min. Rest for 2 min. 3. On stomach, put hands by shoulders. Raise torso up into Cobra Pose, while keeping pelvis on ground and heels together and elbows against ribs. Long Deep breathing for 3 min. Rest for 2 min. Every Kriya is usually followed by one of hundreds of meditations. There are specific Nabhi (abdominal) Kriyas. They are too long to give here but some exercises are like alternate leg raises to 90 degrees and both legs to 90 degrees, leg raises at different heights like 6 " , 12 " , 2', 3'. Most exercises are held for 3 minutes. Some use long deep breathing and some use breath of fire. One person has a pretty easy Nabhi Kriya at this site. kundalini yogakyt09.html For loose skin on the arms, something like yogic pushups. These are the same as regular pushups, only the toes are pointed and one is not balancing on the toes. For loose skin around the neck, something like neck rolls might be good. I think exercises need to go hand in hand with weight loss to tone the muscles underneath so the skin will also decrease. There are specific kriyas for neck and thyroid area but too lengthy to put here and it would be best to take a yoga class for those anyway.
