Guest guest
Dear All, I have a 6 year old daughter who has the following symptoms: 1) Skips a motion once in a week 2) Usually used to have a motion in the evening after coming back from school. 3) Does not have a urge to have a motion in the morning. 4) Low appetite. 5) Takes very long to eat 6) Has had 4 of her baby tooth decay. I have consulted quite a few practitioners in the area, but I have not even found anybody very competent. Recently I met another prarctitioner who seemed competent. These were her recommendations: According to her she pitta vata and her vikruti is pitta + vata as well. 1) khichari kind of food for 2 weeks. 2) then more of a cleansing diet. 3) 1/8 tsp triphala + 1/16 tsp haritaki with honey twice a day 4) castor oil on feet 5) brahmi ghee in nose. Recently she has had bad allergies and cough/cold. She wakes up with a blocked nose everyday. I have stopped even milk and reduced the sweet taste a lot. She also complains of burning in the eyes sometimes. But with kids it is very difficult to do a lot of diet control. She also does not sometimes eat food in school and comes home at 3:30. All my meals are home cooked and satvic. Minimal tomatoes/onions etc. So the practitioner also suggested giving her warm cooked food every 3 hrs as she thinks her agni is good but sometimes when the agni is there, the food that she likes is not there. But even after all these things she has had allergies for 4 weeks. Is what I am doing enough and do I need more patience ? Or is there something else also that could help more specially with the allergies. -thanks
Guest guest
for allergy first try changing the soap, powder and insecticide and chemicals you use in the house better first stop them for a month to find the fault ________________________________ Recently she has had bad allergies and cough/cold. Guest guest
The collection of various symptoms, incl. decay of 4 baby tooth, suggests that low appetite (read digestive agni), weak elimination force(apana Vata) asynchronous with circadian rhythm, recent allergic cough/cold appear to be the result of low liver function, onslaught of junk/fast food consisting of soft floor, refined carbs, and lack of appropriate fats. Vaccines given during childhood may also have contribution to allergic reactions and low liver function. Check if all these factors were present in her lifestyle. Early introduction of formula milk or jersey cow milk also causes these type of situations. Having tried several practitioners, and not having found them very competent, author doubts whether you will meet any one competent online. However, author is always concerned when a child is suffering. Hence he suggests one home remedy, you may try it for maximum a week. The past reference and testemonaial is available at: ayurveda/message/5629 You may see several messages connected to the above message by clicking on the list of messages at the bottom of message 5629. Some changes are necessary in case of your daughter. Take dried ginger powder(Sunth) 1/2 tsp, add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp honey, mix well and ask her to lick after every meal. This needs to be done for 1 week. Additionlly, boil 1 cup milk with 1/2 tsp ginger powder, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, for 5 minutes. When luke warm, add 1 tsp Indian cow ghee (if available in pure form) and 1 pinch sea salt and let her drink it quickly at bedtime only. She may take jaggery instead of sugar/sweets, but then mix 1/4 part ginger powder, 1/8 part turmeric to jaggery (by weight). If milk is boiled with ginger and/or turmeric, its mucous boosting tendency gets eliminated. Many other cough/cold remedies are discussed on the list, where simple home remedies are stressed rather than formulations. Success of home remedies depends on the absense of other allopathic quick-fixes and availability of pure herbal ingredients. e.g. the quality of ginger powder available in local market here varies to such an extent that price differs by 100%. Good quality powder urges one to sneeze as soon as it is held near nose and inhaled. Burning sensation results when it is applied as paste. poor quality of herbs, inability to assess their medicinal poperties at the traders premises are some of the reasons for apparent incompetancy of vaidyas. When diet control is difficult, it is necessary to check if child has parasites (worms, krimi, candida etc). YOu may check if such a possibility has not been overlooked by other vaidyas. Parasites ambush vaidyas often: ayurveda/message/5621 The growth of parasites, allergies etc is often due to not giving bitter herbs to the children in first 2 years age. Child builds the foundation of health in these two years. ________________ My 6 year old daughter 1) Skips a motion once in a week 2) Usually used to have a motion in the evening after coming back from school. 3) Does not have a urge to have a motion in the morning. 4) Low appetite. 5) Takes very long to eat 6) Has had 4 of her baby tooth decay. Guest guest
Where do you live? If you live in a cold climate it is winter and it is not necessarily alergies that block her nose. Your home may need a humidifier during the winter. Have you tried somethin simple like massage with warm sesame oil? _____________ But even after all these things she has had allergies for 4 weeks.
