Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I just want to chime in here with my 2cents. I am a believer in alternative, holistic medicine. When I was 22 years old, back in 1976, I was diagnosed with a very serious form of ovarian cancer. I did have surgery and I did take some chemotherapy, but when the chemo was making me seriously deathly ill and my doc told me I had a 10% chance of living, I walked out on it. Having known and heard about others who had what I had and continued with the full course of chemotherapy until they died, I feel very blessed that I refused to continue with it and chose alternative therapies instead. I completely avoided any conventional medicine for 2 years, and then allowed a very conservative internist to give me a battery of tests. He was planning to have me go back on chemo (which I would've refused) but he was shocked to find that all the tests were normal and actually pronounced me " cured. " However, having said that, I will add I'm not the kind of person who would advocate that path to anyone else. (I am however, eternally grateful for the people in my life who advocated it to me.) For my own personal healing process, I consider the use of herbs, essential oils, homeopathic remedies, bodywork, prayer, etc., to be my medicines. I rarely visit conventional doctors. And I don't like to throw my money at pharmaceutical companies. On the other hand, as a massage therapist, I have worked in a cancer clinic to bring nurturing, healing touch to people who are in major discomfort. It was never my role to share my experiences with them, but to support them with comforting touch and also their family members with chair massage. So I do agree that aromatherapy, like massage, can play a role in integrative or so-called complementary medicine, but my own personal choice is for alternative, holistic -- therapies.
