Guest guest
Jeanette, Might look at Potassium....? I'm going to forward something I found in Max Gerson's book ~ A Cancer Therapy, that tells the unique balance between Potassium and Sodium. Please do not take it that I think you have a real severe problem, I just got this inform from this book, and needed to acknowledge where I got it from. Quote: I mentioned several days ago, that I was reading this great book by Max Gerson MD, called A Cancer Therapy. He states: "An explanation for the importance of the absorbtion of these minerals was propounded by V. Bunge, who said that there must be more K, or potassium in the organs in general than Na, sodium, must be maintained. K has to be predominant chiefly within the cells (called, therfore, intracellular) while Na has to stay outside the cells in serum, lymph, connective tissue (therfore called extracellular). Later obserbations led to the opinion that the minerals do not react singly but in groups. As a consequence, Dr. Rudolph Keller established the doctrine of the two mineral groups, the intracellular (potassium) or anodic group traveling to the anode, and the extracelular (sodium) or cathodic group traveling to the cathode under biological conditions. A further consequence was the disccovery that hormones, vitamins and enzymes obey the same rule as the two mineral groups; this means that their function depends upon the prevalence of the K-group within the cells of the organs and tissues such as the liver, muscles, brain, heart, kidney cortex, etc., whereas the Na-group remains outside of them. The Na-group is stationed in the fluids and tissues; serum, lymph, connective tissue, thyroid, bile ducts, etc. Here are also the cathodic or negative vitamins and enzymes, of which the main functions, metabolism and storage are confined to this extracellular group. To the K-group belong about 60 percent of the body tissues and to the Na-group 30 percent; 10 percent are on the borderline. All of them are kept in their proper place, probably by means of their electrical potential. During the day, some Na penetrates the potassium tissues, and this is followed by chloride and water, a process which brings about fatigue, a little heaviness or swelling. At night, it is reabsorbed and in the morning it is eliminated in urine, and the person feels refreshed. Later in the book, One thing that caught my attention was this paragraph: " In a normal body all is alive, especially the basic substances built by the minerals, they have ionized or activated potassium and minerals of the potassium group with a positive electrical potentials. In a sick body- mainly in cancer- potassium is inactive- sodium and minerals of the sodium group are ionized with negative potentials. On this basis all other abnormal processes develop as consequences. For healing purposes the body must be detoxified- activated with ionized minerals, natural food so that the essential organs can function again. For healing the body brings about a kind of inflammation. That is a tremendous transformation reaction. This renders the body hypersensitive or allergic to a high degree against abnormal or strange substances (including bacilli, cancer cells, scars, etc.,) Consequently the more malignant the cells are the more effective is the treatment. I think this is "the end effect or secret of the treatment". The school of von Bergmann did reveal some of the features of the allergic reaction." He states that in his cancer therapy, the ideal task is to restore the function of the oxidizing systems in the entire organism. This, of course, is difficult to accomplish. It involves the following: 1) detoxication of the whole body, 2) providing the essential mineral contents of the potassium group, 3) adding oxidizing enzymes continually as long as they are not reactivated and buil in the body (in the form of green leaf juice and fresh calf's liver juice). This will create a near normal condition of the oxidizing system in the body, to which malignant cells with the fermentation system cannot adapt.... This book's ISBN # is 0-88268-203-2 It is really a great book. An educational read. You know, I always thought that these no sodium diets were all fad's, but I see that sodium 'may' in some extreme conditions, kind of take over, and unbalance things, if potassium is not what it should be. I didn't understand the positive andd negative charges of the minerals, but this makes lots of sence. I am learning a lot! End of Quote. Also, might look into Capsicum, to help support the heart . Guest guest
I am also interested in this. I have recently (4 weeks ago) started a new exercise routine. I have been exercising at lunch 4 to 5 days a week, and after work 3 days a week. So getting around 4 hours of a mix of cardio and weight training a week. I have found that I am retaining a lot of water (around 5 lbs I think). I drink 1 litre of water in the morning before I go to work. Around 1.5 litres during work, then another .5 to 1 litre in the evening. So I think I am getting enough water. I was thinking it was an adjustment period where my body is getting used to the extra exercise, but it has been going on for quite a while now. Any ideas?? Guest guest
I don't know of an herbal remedy, but I do know that Aloe gel in herbal tea (or lemonade) or freshly juiced grapefruit juice act as wonderful natural diuretic. Although she can significantly increase her water intake and that should do the trick too. Guest guest
Dear Fahad, Sounds like Kidney Problems. Best is to make some Juniper Berry tea. If you don't have access to Juniper, then try UVA URSI. Failing that, have your grocer save you the tops off of corn, and use the corn silk in a tea. This should help. Guest guest
Dear Janene, Water retention is usually an indicator of improper diet and Kidney malfunction. Of course behind that could be a Liver problem as well. The first place I'd look, is at the Kidneys, and do a thorough Kidney / Bladder Cleanse. Love, Doc PS. One of the big indicators of Kidney problems is that usually (not always) a person so suffering will have an unusual amount of Body Odor. Guest guest
--- ikbods <ikbods wrote: my abdomen has been swollen with water retention for several months, rach first of all, are you on a water pill (diuretics)? If you are, then stop taking it and drink drink drink water. Water flushes toxins away. You should drink 1/2 ounce of water for every pound that you weigh. You may also drink tea or furit juice, but don't count the liquid in these as the 1/2 oz per lb. if you havn't already, throw away the salt shaker. also, throw away the msg, aspartane packets, etc. you probably need to detox too. Toxins swell you up. try going veg for awhile. Animal products Milk, dairy, eggs, don't always digest so well. Consider a live food diet (not cooked, just as many fresh veggies as you can eat or juice 'em and drink 'em) Lightly steamed is OK. This worked for me. My feet and ankles used to swell up like baloons. My doctor, in his " wisdom " prescribed more and stronger diuretics. Diuretics rob you body of wate, overwork the kidneys, and flush away the good stuff with the bad. Your body works in a dehydrated mode, and toxins accumulate. Once I stopped the water pills, and started eating a vegan diet, the swelling went away, the edema in my face went away and I look and feel 10 years younger. jan
Guest guest
I agree completely with Suzi. Your symptoms are typical of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Look at the intestinal cleanse #1 and #2. It should straighten this out for ya. Janet - Suzanne herbal remedies Tuesday, August 05, 2003 9:44 AM Re: [herbal remedies] water retention Sounds like a good cleanse would be in order... check in the files under Dr.IanShillington for Intestinal Cleanse #1... Guest guest
Steve, " My hands and feeet are visibly swollen---I can't get my ring off, and skin is puffy around it. It's not real bad, but my right hand hurts from it sometimes. I don't use much salt or fried (very rare) foods. My (regretable) medications do not have this side effect, and " I've noticed my ankle was swelling up in the last few months plus I gained 10#. There was no reason for either to occur. I haven't gained 10# since I was pregnant. In November when I could no longer tolerate the amount of sea salt they used in meats and packaged foods, those symptoms first appeared. Guest guest
I’d suggest cypress, grapefruit or other citrus oils for breathing. Herbal remedies are good, too. Cornsilk tea releases excess fluid nicely. If he’s really strapped for cash, he could find an untreated area and harvest fresh dandelion greens to sauté or use in a salad. Gentle exercise may help, as well. Rebounder comes to mind. Guest guest
Limiting the salt intake is extremely important. It can be difficult, but making food from scratch is the easiest way to do it - avoiding canned foods or pre-made mixes. Dandelion leaf tea (or eaten as a vegetable, or capsules if necessary) is a good potassium sparing diuretic, and is usually available freely this time of year, depending on where you live. Cutting out all salt and adding lots of greens were the most effective things when I was caring for a relative with severe water retention. Good luck!
