Dear members,

My 6 year old son who has attention issues was given a prescription for Ritalin

L.

We didnt start the course yet. We wanted to try any alternate safer medicine

first. I researched on the web and found that Fish Oil is very good and started

giving him 2 ligui gel capsules every day.

Does anybody have any insight into this? Is this a good treatment for ADHD?

Please share any info you have...

Regards,

Vani

Here's a recent headline in the Journal of the American Medical Association:

" Pay attention: Ritalin acts much like cocäine. "

From the AMA themselves.

Researchers at Brookhaven National Laboratory gave doses

of Ritalin to normal volunteers.  And just like cocaine,

the drug reduced the blood flow 23-30 percent in all areas

of the brain, including the frontal lobes, where the

highest human functions are generated.  The changes were so

obvious they showed up on brain scan photos printed in a

scientific journal.

Holy moly

When blood flow is reduced to ANY part of the body, that

means it is getting less oxygen, less nutrition and overall

less function.  At the NIMH's Laboratory of Cerebral

Metabolism, they found that Ritalin reduced the gross

metabolic rate throughout many portions of the brain.  They

pointed out that ADHD-like behaviors or not, these drugs

would do this to anybody.  When you reduce the blood flow,

oxygen and nutrition to any part of the body, especially

the brain, it causes malfunction in the organ.

Take blood flow, oxygen and nutrition from the heart and

you will have heart failure.

So when your child seems more docile, quieter and easier

to control on Ritalin or any stimulant drug like it, you

are witnessing a degree of brain failure.

Less oxygen to your brain.

Less brain function.

Do you want to do this to your child?  Any child?  Yourself?

Vani,

A search revealed this vital information regarding the effects of magnesium on

ADHD. Calcium and magnesium balance is essential to good brain health.

Vani,

This article may help you with your search for alternatives. Great site!

What are EFAs?

Humans need more fat, but what they don't need are

excess calories. There's a crucial distinction between structural

fat and storage fat (blubber).

Hi JoAnn,

Other than calcium and magnesium, potassium is also important. One should test

these children for serum electrolytes, particularly those that feel tired all

the time. In the biochemic method Five Phos often works and reduces ADHD

symptoms. A detoxification is also necessary. Is there any method to know if

these fish oil supplements are free of heavy metals? If not then we will just be

adding to the problem.

Jagannath.

Hi Jagannath,

Greetings. Yes, I am glad you mentioned this. Actually there is. It is a

process of 'distillation'. Whenever it is utilized it specifically states that

the oil has undergone this process on the label of the fish oil supplement. This

process ensures the purity and safety of that particular supplement!

Mercury is much more prevalent in American waters, due to technology of course,

so we buy our supplements and wild salmon derived from more pristine 'Norwegian'

waters. The problems are higher in the U.S. obviously because our industrial

complexes are spewing out an abundance of various chemical pollutants.

The 'farmed' fish are not used in better health food store brands in america.

PCB's are most prevalent in farmed fish!

Alaskan and Norwegian fish are safer however " Atlantic " salmon are typically

farmed, risky and should never be ingested in any form.

The american brands I would recommend would be Carlson and Spectrum or any

brand using this 'distilled' processing in their plants.

Yes, I agree Jag, potassium is one of the more important electrolytes! Most

of those who use the standard american " processed " foods diet protocol tend to

carry a mineral imbalance. It is important to take a mineral supplement which

includes plenty of essential minerals, both micro and macro minerals are

important to avoid illness and eliminate swine flu and other diseases.

Best Regards,

JoAnn
