Guest guest
Sometimes excess drinking can cause a yeast (fungus) overgrowth in the GI, something worth looking at because that could really mess things up. If those digestive enzymes are helping you out, then you've likely got a weak Spleen channel. You might have Spleen troubles if you've got a scalloped tongue or if you've got a damp condition which can show up as a thick white coating. Here is a nice page that Al made up for helping people understand the basics of looking at a tongue http://www.beyondwellbeing.com/herbs/tongue-diagnosis.shtml If you have a weak spleen, then most of the time raw anythings are not the best for you because they are cooler in energy and require a lot of digestive energy (Spleen energy) in order to process. You might try a medium to light steam instead. Also if it ends up being your spleen, make sure to eat slow, and always leave your stomach 20 to 40% empty. Over filling the stomach can injure the Spleen (The Spleen and the Stomach are the yin/yang Earth combo). Also if this ends up being the problem, minimizing beer and other alcohol as well as sweet fatty or greasy foods will probably help you out as those usually end up damaging the Spleen (and of course spleen (anatomical organ) is different than Spleen (Chinese collection of functions that are described as the Spleen). From what you said it sounds like you've already got a good grip on a lot of that =) Another thing that makes me think it has something to do with the Spleen is when you say drinking too much water upsets your system. The Spleen does not like too much water, especially during a meal. If you think of the spleen as a pot over a fire and if good digestion means always keeping a hot pan with hot contents, you can easily see how filling it up too fast (eating too fast) or filling it up with a lot of water during a meal could really cool things. If the pot gets over filled the water could also spill over the edge and put out the fire. So definitely limit the amount of water during a meal, and also its best not to drink ice water during a meal because it lowers the temp which needs to be around 100F for the enzymes and overall digestion to work well. Al would probably have some real good ideas for you, so I would wait and see what he says. It would probably also be good for you to see a local practitioner. Mostly people have intricate and complex problems that someone with experience and an education needs to take a look at, and are well past the home brew variety. If you need some help with that, just e-mail me your zip and how far you are willing to travel and I'd be happy to help. Good luck with getting it all figured out! Hopefully that can get you started, and one of the professionals can give you some more specific ideas with your situation =) Rex PS here are the search engines for practitioners http://dol.jkmcomm.com/acupuncture/default.asp http://www.acufinder.com/Find+Acupuncturist Chinese Traditional Medicine , " larry hachey " <marcelhy wrote: > > hi i would like to know what i can do for my digestion. > i take digestive enzymes but i would like to get off of them. > if i dont take them i find every thing i eat seems to stay > on my chest, like i need to belch all the time & the lower > part of my stomach hurts.if i take enzymes i am fine. > i eat pretty good, not all raw veggies but some. some cooked > veggies like sweet potatoes, no processed foods or sweets. > very little meats. maybe a liter of water per day. but i noticed > if i have very little water per day, only a glass or two i dont > feel too bad. years ago i used to drink allot on weekends but only > have 4-5 beer nowadays, (maybe the drinking has screwed my digestion) > anyway i would like some suggestions, there must be a way to fix this. > thanks > lar > > >
Guest guest
Hi Lars, I'd like to add two more words to Rex's post: " drink less " . Drink when you're thirsty and stop listening to anybody who says you need to drink more than you naturally want. This whole " drink eight glasses of water per day " thing began in the 70's with research on diabetics who urinate a lot. Their needs are different. Assuming that you're not diabetic, and assuming that your urine is not dark yellow or brown, you're fluid balance is probably fine. -al. While I don't drink anywhere near 8 glasses of water per day, I do live in a very dry climate and find that I have to drink quite a lot. If I don't I get constipated, have chapped lips and get headaches where the pain is front and back of the head. I have to remind myself to drink more because the `drink when you're thirsty' suggestion just isn't enough for me. sue
