From what I learnt, foods that help produce or replenish Ojas include items

such as ghee ( clarified organic butter V-P-K-), milk (V-P-K+ – organic raw

or fresh is *sattvic*, if cow was not treated lovingly and allowed to roam

free in pasture without the normally vegetarian cow being given feed made

from nonvegetarian sources), dates (*sattvic *V-P-K+), almonds (should be

soaked and peeled or blanched - *sattvic *V-P-K+ when soaked and peeled,

basmati rice (*sattvic *V-P-K-) and the like. Garlic is not mentioned here.

In fact I read:

*SOME THINGS TO AVOID*

- Frozen, canned, fried foods, leftovers

- All ice cold food and drink

- Big, heavy, or late evening meals

- Milk (also yogurt) with fruits, vegetables, fish (is toxic)

- Honey cooked in anything (is toxic)

- Fruits and vegetables in the same meal

- Mushrooms, peanuts, tomatoes, garlic, eggplant (affect meditation and

transcending)

- Sweet, flour desserts after a meal (before is best)

- Alcohol, caffeine--coffee, tea, chocolate, other beverages (affect

meditation and transcending)

- All refined grains and sugar and foods containing them

- All food cooked in used fats/oils

- Because of significant contraindicating research ALL soy products no

longer carry a recommendation.

I would say...only cultured ghee would directly feed ojas. Its the enzymes

contained that make ghee medicinal as considered. In the villages and ancient

times, all dairy was made into curd because of lack of refrigeration. Now, we

can turn organic heavy cream into yogurt, then whip into butter, and enjoy the

true buttermilk.

This cultured butter, I cook into ghee.

Having ghee made from stick butter is a relatively new practice.

I never said garlic helps produce ojas. I did say garlic helps produce semen.

Ginger is the one that helps produce ojas. You are right about ghee and

milk, etc. helping to produce ojas. Almost all of the bias against spices come

from hatha yogis. I do not have anything against hatha yoga or hatha yogis. I

have done hatha yoga and it is very good. Kundalini Yoga as I said is a

different paradigm. For instance, we often do breath of fire or heavy powerful

breathing doing an exercise, often there is movement doing an exercise,

sometimes holding postures for long periods such as holding the legs up while

laying down for 5 minutes while doing breath of fire, sometimes holding the arms

up for 62 minutes while doing a meditation. How can you judge something if you

have not done it? I did not make this up or did not make up recommended foods

for KY. These have been around for centuries and advocated by sadhus. They

were practiced in the caves of India for a long time and taught to only a select

few people. It was not until 1968, when Yogi Bhajan came to Canada and the US,

that it was taught to the populace.

Dear GB,

sorry, I only caught the word Ojas. Yes, of course food while being

metabolized through all the 7 Dhatus is transformed to Shukra Dhatu (semen

or Ovum) and then the finest product of the metabolic process which is Ojas.

That is if the process in really functioning correctly and more and more

refinment is achieved.

But you had the logics - or maybe I misunderstood this completely - that

garlic is producing more semen and through this more Ojas. Maybe it was my

interpretation that I read this wrongly out of your words. I only wanted to

mention that I do not see a clear line from here (Semen) to Ojas in this

argumentation as more productyion of semen or arousal of sexual power does

not necessarily imply that still a further REFINEMENT takes place and the

most precious substance of Ojas is created by taking Garlic and producing

more semen. Ojas is produced by transcending, experiencing pure

consciousness, the goal of the meditative process. That's why the great

Yogi's showed great luster on their skin and face - as the word

enlightenment implies. I don't know what you mean with spices which

Hartaayogis do not appreciate. I think everyone knows the great health

benefits of the wonderful spices that Ayurveda knows of and that have become

an epitome of the Indian cuisine and healing arts.

Food is medicine - also in part because of the spices used. Many spices

support the formation of Ojas by supporting the metabolic processes and the

continuous refinement that digestion and metabolism mean and bring about.

Saffron e.g. just comes to mind. But I did not hear that garlic produces

Ojas really. However when the lower chakras have become really weak and a

person is not really well grounded and feeling vital and juicy then garlic,

particularly when purified with the method described, can create more

wholeness and integration in the physiology and this way also more

indirectly help the production of Ojas in a way as Ojas is the most refined

product of a healthy, refined, integrated and most holistically, balanced

functioning of the physiology. I myself have had good experiences with

Onions when my Vata was really out of balance, particularly in winter time,

when I worked too much at night and was on the verge of getting a severe

Kapha problem, flue or so (Vata - feeling empty in head and chest, overtired

and the nervous system is totally overexaggerated - then in our geografic

regions can suddenly turn to a flue or severe cold with all the Kapha

problems coming along with it, heavy head, much sneezing, mucus etc. When I

then had some food with onions at the time of totally out of balance Vata on

the verge to cold or flue I was saved from the flue in some cases

completely.

So everything has its value and garlic also. If I feel like it, I would

never hesitate to take it.It can be pure Amrit then. But I usually don't

take it.
