Hmmm

I am curious to know where you read this!

I looked in all of my books and notes and the information I keep getting is

that the process removes milk proteins and enzymes that encourage bacterial

growth- giving the ghee a longer(indefinite, said to improve with age)shelf

life, unrefrigerated.(dont refrigerate your ghee!) Vasant Lad specifically

states that if one has high ama or cholesterol they should limit their

intake of ghee.

The quality of the ghee depends on the quality of the butter(organic by all

means),the means of making it and how it is stored(container should be

sterilized).

Ghee is a sattvic food, Ghee is able to penetrate deep into the tissues(said

to penetrate the seven " dhatus " or tissue layers) and is excellent for

mixing with herbs to aid in their digestion and assimilation. Food is better

assimilated when prepared with ghee as well...

Ghee is excellent for improving digestion while not increasing heat- so is

beneficial for those of a pitta (fire) constitution...

It is also good topically for rashes and inflammations(add a little

lavender!)

The recipe is one of Vasant Lad's, B.A.M.S., M.A.Sc., director of the Ayurvedic

Institute in Albuquerque, New Mexico, a native of India and one of the few

classically trained Ayurvedic practitioners teaching in the United States. The

recipe was in New Choices in Natural Healing It is a book with several

alternative medicine practices in it. Written by several people.

Very interesting- I have taken a course partially written by Dr Lad, and am

a student of Ayurveda and have never heard or read this in any literature...

I did find the information that Ghee contains no " oxidised cholesterol " ...

Shivani,

why yes,,

that is true what you say about those uses.. I have been so lucky as to

have had several classes, Vicky Stern and Dr Lad , and several others...

in Ayurveda and pancha karma and shirodara, Abyanga.. and so on

including the famous basti's... and various immersions..

here is one I have done personally . taking some very gluten dough make

a dough with water and the flour.. and make a ring or circle and place

it around the eye.. my eye and blend it into the skin to make it " oil

proof " and then take warm Ghee and pour it into this ring as a

reservoir.. and bath the eye ball in the ghee.. sounds kind of yucky?

well it is till you get used to it and experience the lubrication of the

eye and the nourishing of the eye from the outside.. so to speak..

where did that one come from? Dr Lad. much of the material I have done

is of his origin...

so more on ghee. certain herbs infused in Ghee.. make the basti the

basti is an implant to the colon.. we won't go there but if one does all

the cleansings of the pancha karma.. delightful to some and a real test

of courage to others.. one will do these as well...

also the ears.. hot ghee in the ears is very cleansing and feels so ..

unique..

a favorite is the shirodara.. this is the even flowing stream of hot

oils, I have used Bindi OIls, for this, or I'm sure Ghee is ok...

Ghee and holy Basil oil. Ghee is a great carrier for certain EO's

the place it on the statue comment is actual also there are statues in

INdia, which I have NOT seen, in person, but on the TV .. and heard

about them where the thing to do is honor the gods with the ghee...

thinking of ghee as a universal organic edible grease.. one can lube the

drawers with it or any odd squeaks in the house...

cuts and burns...aloe to ut of course lavender oils is helpful for the

burns too...

gosh I am going to have to see if I can buy some of I will make some

soon... Ghee

its been great talking up the butter's

Shivani, thanks for that little tidbit! getting my cats to take, even

supposedly good tasting, medicine is like putting butter up a wildcat's A _ _

with a red hot poker! LOL I'll try the ghee next time. Deonia

  • 7 years later...

Does anyone know if Ghee is indeed beneficial?

Some individuals claim that Ghee can help to live a long life, is this true or

just

superstition? Any scientific studies to back this up?
