Maybe you should talk to your parents about it, if you can. they might be able to give you some good advice or suggestions. Tell your doctor that you don't think the med is working. Maybe check with a nutritionally oriented doctor who could suggest some alternative vitamins or herbs. Exercise really can help. Get outside and speed walk. Eat wholesome foods. Talk with friends. Stay away from drugs and alcohol. Talk with a school conselor if you're in school. Sincerely, Gabriele RN http://www.naturalhealthnurse.com

Callisto,

Did you get depressed in the winter?? Could be just a lack of sunlight. If

not, could also be a B-vitamind deficiency. If I were you, I'd look for

alternatives to getting put on anti-depressants. My theory is that there is a

root cause--usually nutritional--to depression, anxiety, etc. You might want

to try St. John's Wort too--an herbal anti-depressant. It works, and it's not

bad for your liver.

Take care of yourself.

Good luck,

Lynne Z.

Good morning Callisto,

Absolutaly a beautiful name! You mentioned that you don't think the medication is helping your depression, I was wondering if you are also taking any vitamin supplements and if so what? My cousin suffers from Bipolar and is on ALOT of meds. For the last couple of years she has incorperated vitamins. Some of the meds that she has to take deplete her body of vitamins. Have you ever heard of Dr. Andrew Weil? He says that exercise is the best medication to combat depression. He does go on to say that the hardest part is getting started, but you just have to go out and "do it". Have heard of a Dr. Mercola? He is another one that says diet plays a big part in treating depression, too. Both of these Dr.'s have web sites, just go to www.drweil.com and www.drmercola.com and start reading.

I know you are not ready to go to counseling but, just having someone listen to you and understand what you are going through and why sounds very comforting.

When I was in my early 20's I suffered a bout of depression. My Mom sent me to a Psycologist. That was the best thing that ever happened to me. I am now 35, and go to a woman's group once a month where we share and talk about everything.

Well, I'll stop the babbling! LOL! Callisto, I hope I have help some in some small and minute way.

Hugs,

Kristen

Callisto~~ I too suffer with depression and anxiety. i know what the cause is..I mean I know what triggered it in the first place. Our brains are great machines. They have the ability to remember things subconciously that WE cannot remember in our conscious...they have the ability to work "stuff" out in dreams..they are wonderful muscles and veins and woo hoo grey matter!! I aam all for medicine to correct severe repeated depression. I myself take paxil and have done so for the last two years. If you are on a anti depressant please do not take anything herbal without talking to your doctor. I will share a secret with you....SHHHH....when i got on an anti from a regular md it did nothing...when i went to a psychiatrist and with that did therapy and self help that is when the turn around happened! I still have my bad days and even sometimes it goes on for a week or so..but now I know that the depression and anxiety are not all that Betsy is..I am also healthy happy and whole..I have supportive people to talk to and all of this in combination helps..do not expect a cure all with just meds..it takes time for your brain to get back in shape. Hon if you want email me privately And I would be willing to share more intimate details of my past and present...and know I have been there and that my heart is with you..I do now how you feel..but hon...i have learned only you can make it better and you have to let your head know that is what you plan to do!

Betsy of luck sweetie~~ Betsy

I completely do not agree with anyone who tells you

that you need to go on meds.

This country is messed up when people resort to

popping pills and expecting to take them for the rest

of their lives, just to normalize their brain

function.

I do not want to step on anyones toes.

yogiguruji gave you a web adress to look at, for

depression. I am pasting this quote, straight from

that page...research, study, read, eat good whole

organic food, think good thoughts, exercise a lot

" The modern medical system treats depression with

anti- depression drugs which provide temporary relief

but have harmful side-effects and do not remove the

causes or prevent its recurrence. The harmful

side-effects include gross liver damage,

hypersensitivity, insomnia, hallucinations, a confused

state, convulsions, a fall in blood pressure which

brings on headaches and dizziness , blurred vision,

difficulty in inhaling and urine retention. The plan

of action for self-treatment of depression consists of

regulating the diet, exercise, scientific relaxation

and meditation. "

I agree with all the above that you mentioned.....

I am just here to say that I have suffered greatly with depression. I tried all of those things..meditation herbs excercise eatting good....but take note that your brain chemicals can get out of balance and sometimes all the alternatives are not enough to regain that balance! I am not an advocator for medicine...I just know if it were not for the self help..the yoga..the eatting right ..the excercise and the MODERN WESTERN meds... I would not be here..there is balance to be found! All we have to do is open our eyes and read and explore....good luck to you! Betsy

Hi Avery. I suffer from depression and anxiety and what helps me is to avoid refined sugar, wheat, and corn. Please look into candida as a major cause for your and your families symptoms. The average American diet is not good at all.I managed to avoid the above three for three days and I was so calm and at peace I didn't know myself. Then, the world stepped in again...KelAvery <averylt wrote: Hello Group, it is I Avery. Avery, check out the Gerson Therapy at www.gerson.org It has cured many of depression, including myself. Let me know if you have questions. I recommend that you read "The Gerson Therapy". They have it on amazon.com and it's not expensive at all. Best, Amelia

Hi Avery, It sounds like you came to the right place. You know I battled depression and 5 anxiety disorders after my cancer. I lost my medical insurance so I couldn't get the traditional psychotherapy and psychotropic drugs (not that I wanted anymore drugs!) So I treated myself! This is what I did. First of all, you have the best supplement for fighting depression and anxiety that there is (in my opinion and many others). 2AEP repairs and supports the integrity of cellular linings. All information passed between cells goes thru the lining. When those cells or the linings in the brain are damaged (free radicals among other damages) we get all sorts of mental illnesses. I hope you will get the chance to meet Kim Clark thru First Fitness. She was suicidally depressed and couldn't function enough to get up and brush her teeth. After 3 months on 2AEP, she was back to work. When she gave her testimony at a meeting, she was all bubbly and

smiley! It took awhile for me to remember her story, after all I had been thru, especially the depression. But when I did remember that I had the answer the whole time and I didn't need my medical insurance, I was better in 2 to 3 months. Completely better. No depression, no panic attacks, I could go outside of my house again and drive again. I did some other things too. First increase your intake of water. You should have 2 and 1/2 quarts a day. You want to have even more than that, I drink 100 ounces a day (4 - 25 oz. sports bottles). Believe me it works. Your brain just absolutely not be dehydrated. Exercise as much as you can. When I first started, I couldn't do any more than get up (sometimes I couldn't even get up!) and stretch my neck, arms, and legs. The more I did it though, the more I was able to do. Eventually I was able to do yoga again. YOGA IS GREAT FOR DEPRESSION. Which take me to......Meditation! Chakra meditation is a good place to

start. I have a really good book called "Meditation - Path to the Deepest Self" by Michal Levin. It introduces chakra meditation and how to do it. After you are able to do the chakra meditation (and it is really easy), you might want to try transcendental meditation. I meditate everyday, sometimes several times a day, depending on what is going on in my life that day! Doreen's suggestion of hypnosis would be a great idea. You can't get any farther into your own head than you can with hypnosis. And Doreen is really great at what she does. You may want to try some meditation CDs or tapes. I get mine at occult stores or some religious book stores have them too. Praying did little good for me when I was in depression. I believe other people's prayers for me worked better than my own because I was in such a state of self pity! Meditation, though, was a whole different story. It worked wonders for me. You may try some other types of music or tranquil sounds tape

too, rain, oceans, thunderstorms, night sounds with crickets and frogs, etc. If you don't have fish, get an aquarium that requires an air stone. It doesn't have to be expensive. You can get a small one for $20 and throw in a couple of goldfish. The sound of the bubbles, soft lighting and just watching the fish swim peacefully around is so very relaxing and will help with depression. And lastly, I have some really good juicing recipes for stress and anxiety. Do you have a juicer? If I call you, will you answer the phone? When I was depressed, I wouldn't answer the phone if it was my mom on the caller ID! I will try to call you, probably tomorrow in the evening, as I have a quite busy night tonight. As Amelia and Kelly both said, what you eat (or juice) makes a tremendous difference in the state of your mental health. As far as the bipolar, Pauline started using First Essentials for Women and

told me just the other night that she feels alot better. Did you get your son started on the A.D.H.D. protocol? If so, how is he doing on it? I will talk to you soon and in the meantime, I will be praying for you. Call me if you need to tonight. I will be home and I will answer the phone. Once I get started working though it is hard for me to stop to make a call. I will answer one though. Sometimes just talking to someone who understands what you are going through can make an incredible difference in your state of mind. Take care Avery.Blessings, ReneeAvery <averylt wrote: Hello Group, it is I Avery. There are a number of causes for depression and one must find the cause… I can't

imagine a cure without changing ones life… Normally one is not born with

depression, so you need to look back to the cause… once found, then the opposite

effect can be applied… Also take a hard look at the condition of the Srotas and

the sub-doshas… There can be a chemical or hormonal imbalance… One must have

purpose in life… Don't stop asking God for your purpose… This cannot be denied

to you… It will be the thing, which excites you the most… You must make the

effort to obtain it. Good luck … Noel
