Chris, for the cough I would definitely consult Doc, because this is a very young infant, and we don't have a clue what is causing the cough. For teething we used a homeopathic blend by Hylands for all 3 of our hatchlings. It really does the trick with no side effects. Most probably baby will stop teething in a week or two, as at 3 months it is usually the "false start" thing happening (all 3 of mine did this too).

[herbal remedies] cough

Hi Guys!My friends baby has a bad cough, and I'd like to give him something for it. He's three months old. My idea is total tonic, using the 150 rule. Is it best to mix it in his milk or put directly in his mouth? Another thing - he's starting to teeth, and this is upsetting him alot. Any ideas to sooth the pain?Namasté, ChrisFederal Law requires that we warn you of the following: 1. Natural methods can sometimes backfire. 2. Give him both the Total Tonic and Echinacea. A really high quality Echinacea will deaden the pain in the mouth and jump start his immune system.

I just used the Total Tonic for the first time to treat colds in my household -

that and the Echinacea plus ginger tea have shortened the usual lifespan of our

colds from 2-3 weeks to 5 days. Thanks for the new tools to combat this, we both

felt worlds better within 2 days. Now I'm going to search the archives for more

things to try...

homepathic chamomile in 30 x potency will do wonders forthe kid.

It is very helpful with the teething.. pain.. and many other complaints that accompny teething such as diaherria fever crankiness inability to nurse etc.

If i may submit the following for your observation:

In the above instance if you give herbal Chamomile you will not gain the curitive reach of the 30 x potenc.

The herbal extract in homeopathic language is called the Mother tincture.

In any herbal remedy benefit i do not think you will find chammomile as the indicated remedy for teething. I herbal chemomile is given based on the childs temprament etc. it will have only limited reach to the teething issue.

This is great verifiable observation that shows that when the Mother Tincture of an herb is "potetised".. it yields a greater range of healing.

But Mother tinctures are often used on homepathic preceedure.. as a matter of fact some segments of homeopaths do not go automatically to a higher potency. Some prefer to start at the ground of the mother tincture go up potency scale only if needed.

The homepathic materia medica therefore is a great verifyable database of the fuller ragne of healing potential of herbs and so often overlooked as a reference work by many a wellness seeker. This is link to chammomile in the homeopathic materia medica. You might enjoy the read.

Hi Chris,

I used vitamin E with my son: pierce the capsule, and squirt some of the oil on the gums, and gentle rub it in if possible. This helps not only the pain but also the teething itself.

Suzi, don't you think clove oil might be a bit much for a 3-month-old? stings a bit on first application (at least, it does with me LOL)

Clove oil will help the teething.. rub on gums. i would mix it in some apple juice rather than milk. Suzi "Chris Bartenbach <optimist.chris" <optimist.chris wrote:

Dear CheriB,

Another hot tip is to use a garlic suppository (a clove cut in half lengthwise) that is dipped in organic olive oil and stuck where the sun don't shine ;o)

Elizabeth...I have used deep tissue oil rubbed on the chest with good success for a persistant cough .This may work if your son is not too young for the "hot " feeling . Lobelia is another possibility . Hope you all have a better night...Mary O

Herbal Remedies - cough

Hey all,

My son has had a cough for some time now. We went to our homeopath last week who is using something new (to her). She used to use a radionics machine to evaluate us, but now she is using biofeedback (through a computer). I am kind of skeptical. Anyway-supposedly she treated Noah for everything he needed with this biofeedback, sending him the necessary remedies (energy and such). He still has his cough pretty bad. Does anyone have direct experience with this??

Mullein helps with coughs and bronchial conditions. (Mullein Leaf)

An easy way to take it is in capsule form.

We use a marshmallow & horehound syrup

Marshmallow syrup is soothing and really good for bronchial infections, dry coughs and also for the lungs--even for whooping cough.

Add horehound for asthma, colds, coughs, croup, bronchitis, lungs, and sorethroat...

it tastes good and works better. Also makes us sleepy (and sweaty - just a tiny bit)

as to the qxci (I am guessing here) biofeedback machine--it works really well, even on dogs and horses! Amazing. I want my own!

You have most extreme sympathy! I used to get those awful coughs, and

it was brutal. Bad enough coughing during the day, but coughing every

time you try to sleep is horrible.

My best remedy for this is B & T Homeopathic Bronchial Syrup. You should

be able to find it at any health food store (or online). There are daytime

and nighttime versions; both are worth getting and using. It really knocks

out that cough in a short time. You should feel a lot better within the first

day or two.

Most interesting thing is that, after using that for a few coughs, I've never

needed it again! I used to get a serious cough at least once a year. It is so

nice to not have them anymore.

Hi Mr Cough Sufferer,

For your swollen gland, mucus, sneezing and continuous cough, take homoeo

medicine Hephar Sulph - 200c - 3 drops morning, evening and bed time for 4 days.

All the problem will reduce drastically. Contact me on

subratadashomoeo for next medicine. Remind one thing that

antibiotics and cough syrup will not help a bit.

With best wishes

My son has had a cough since late December. He originally got it after a bout

with the flu when he had a fever on and off for 3 weeks. He tried natural

therapies. He thought it would just heal naturally so did not do anything.

First he took homeopathics. Next Ayurvedic remedies, this green cough syrup and

some pills from a Vaidya in Amritsar. After that he took antibiotic cough syrup

for about a week. Then after that a full course of antibiotics (pills and cough

syrup). Then after that Ayurvedic remedies again, the green stuff again. Then

after that another course of antibiotics for a week. Then after that Ayurvedic

medicine, which was:Salveo Lobodil and AZ Broncho and a brownish cough syrup

about two or three weeks. He still has some of these last 2 herbs. Then he came

home and took another course of antibiotics and that is where he is now. Now his

cough is much better. It is a chest cough. Sometimes he coughs up

mucus, originally there was some tightness in his chest which is not present now.

He had green mucus, but now it's yellow mucus. He is otherwise healthy. He does

yoga. We have been on many hikes including a nine hour hike in which we climbed

a peak with an elevation gain of over 5700 feet and 12 miles. He mostly gets

the coughing just when he lays down in bed at night. He is vata/pitta.

Currently, he is in the US. What would the esteemed vaidyas on this list

recommend?

Thank you

GB

My husband sent in info about our son's ongoing cough and that we've tried a lot

of things and he still has it, although it is improved. The concern is the

lingering length of time since December '08. The medical doctor wants us to

outrule everything it could be like TB, allergies, etc. so he has us signed up

for numerous tests. All of this is alarming to me, because I value his health

and the natural approach.

The tests require him to drink Barium for the UGI to test for acid reflux,

Pulmonary Function Test where he inhales some drug and then they test his lung

action, reaction. These are scheduled for Friday. They also want to do blood

tests for TSH which is thyroid, but not all the tests for the thyroid. Comp.

Metabolic Panel, CBC with Differential, and H.pylori IgG Antibody.

Today they took an x-ray and the doctor thought it looked normal. There was a

small dot on it, which he thinks is the blood vessel dilated. The technician

will look at it and give his feedback also.

We want our son's health to improve, but are all these tests important to have?

What do you recommend as Ayurvedic healers to do? It seems like these tests are

invasive. Hope to hear from you soon.

Simple as it may look it nevertheless helped my three girls of a four month old

cough. They never used to sleep in the nights but a single dose of a little warm

water with palatable amount of salt.I gave this as last thing in the night. That

night my girls slept peace fully. Then in the morning i.e. in the day i gave them

similar water four times a day and the cough went away. I just chanced upon this

when my eldest daughter kept coughing for 45 minutes .I had this small book

where the easiest remedy was this .I immediately gave her this and she became

allright. and then for a few more days and nights I continued the treatment
