Guest guest
Hello to all, I am 42 years old, active and in very good health. I am vata-pitta type. I practice yoga regularly and occasionally walk for exercise. My question is about my joints, which are noisy! I do not have pain, but I hear them popping - particularly when I do yoga. I have always been a little creaky in the joints but it seems to be getting worse as I get older. Is this a problem of excess vata, and if so, is it associated with getting older, or is there anything I can do about it? Many thanks for your time. Om shanti Stephanie
Guest guest
Hi Stephanie… Sorry but yes! You are getting older… and it is a sign of high Vata… First rule of thumb with high Vata is heat and oil… I prefer omega 3 internally and sesame seed oil massage… Some people think it's the bones cracking, but what it really is, is a release of hydrogen from the joints that makes that popping noise…you are entering your Vata stag of life… Check the files on the site and find a the Vata pacifying diet… Noel
Guest guest
hi Stephanie, i have been able to help clients control this popping by vata reducing lifestyle- going to bed early and waking at the same time every day, eating at the same time every day and not overstimulating the mind- especially at night and especially not shifting focus of attention too often. it is amazing how much one can affect vata just by these simple changes in lifestyle. and we can reduce vata and joint popping significantly even as we enter the vata stage. you are still young!! have fun! lawren
Guest guest
Thank you all for your thoughts and suggestions. I do try to follow consistent sleep/wake and eating schedules, but watching tv at night is probably fairly stimulating for vata. I could eat a more vata pacifying diet too, and I will try that. In addition to my home hatha practice, I do take a " hot yoga " class once a week or so - the room is heated to 95-100F. I really enjoy the class - the heat feels great on the muscles and it makes one sweat quite a bit. I do sometimes wonder if all the sweating would be drying and exacerbate vata - but I don't want to give it up! i do replenish with lots of fluids. I live in San Antonio so staying warm is not hard! Thanks again.
