Your Tip:

Skin Care

Are you very careful about what you eat? Are you equally careful about what you put on your skin? Ask yourself: If I put some substance on my skin and it "disappears", where has it gone? Of course, it's entered your body. One important rule of thumb about skin care products is whatever you put on your skin is something that you would eat.

Here's a list of eight common ingredients found in skin care products available at health food stores, beauty parlors, and department stores:

1. Mineral oil, paraffin, and petrolatum are petroleum-based products that coat the skin like plastic, clog pores, create a build-up of toxins, and lead to various dermatologic issues.

2. Parabens are preservatives that mimic estrogen and disrupt the endocrine system.

3. Phenol carbolic acid can cause circulatory collapse, paralysis, convulsions, coma and even death from respiratory failure.

4. Propylene glycol may cause dermatitis, kidney or liver abnormalities, inhibit skin cell growth or cause skin irritation.

5. Acrylamide is linked to mammary tumors in lab research.

6. Sodium laurel, lauryl sulfate (SLS), and sodium laureth sulfate (SLES) are substances that break down the skin's moisture barrier, allow other chemicals to easily penetrate the skin, and become a "nitrosamine", a potent cause of cancer.

7. Dioxane, PEG, polysorbates, laureth, ethoxylated alcohols are carcinogenic especially to nasal passages and liver.

8. Toluene, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), benzoic and benzyl are linked to anemia, lowered blood cell count, liver or kidney damage, and may affect a developing fetus.

Would you eat any of those? I wouldn't. For more information read Drop Dead Gorgeous: Protecting Yourself from the Hidden Dangers of Cosmetics by Kim Erickson.

In contrast here's a list of cosmetic ingredients that nourish your skin:

1. Organic aloe vera juice provides immune support, produces collagen and elastin, and also contains vitamins, minerals, and amino acids.

2. Organic virgin coconut oil protects against formation of damaging free radicals, blemishes, signs of aging or overexposure to sunlight, and keeps the skin's connective tissue strong and supple.

3. Organic jojoba oil, from cold-pressed seeds of a desert shrub native to the Sonora Desert in the southwestern U.S., forms a thin, non-greasy, lipid layer that holds water in your skin.

4. Monolaurin is a derivative of coconut oil with antimicrobial properties that support a healthy immune system on the skin.

5. Organic shea butter, a vitamin A cream from the tropics of Africa, produces moisture similar to that produced by the sebaceous glands in the skin.

6. Organic mango butter softens, soothes, moisturizes and protects skin, maintains flexibility, and controls age-related damage to skin cells.

7. Natural palm oil offers a host of skin-nourishing nutrients including phytosterols, CoQ10, mixed carotenoids, and tocotrienols (a subfamily of vitamin E).

Some excellent lines of cosmetics include Desert Essence, Zia, Dr. Hauschka, Pangea Organics, Avea Organic Skin Care and Cosmetics, and Kimberly Sayer of London Skin Care. I urge you to read the fine print on every cosmetic label, so you can feed and nourish your skin well.

Dear Members,

When I was child, my skin colour was fair.

Presently,my age is 25 years.

I had an accident at 08 years.

I was caught by an electrical shock.

Fortunatly I saved by family members but my skin colour turned black due to

burnt skin cells.

Please suggestet me ayurveda treatment to get back my original skin colour

(Fair).

Thanks & regards,
