March is just round the corner. The winter was not so cold in parts

of India. Though equinox is still three weeks away, author is seeing

people sick with cough/cold/fevers, perhaps as a result of weather

getting warmer without having been subject to much cold during Dec-

Feb period. patients with problems such as bleeding piles, heavy

menses on increase suggestive of global warming effects. The seasons are

changing without much notice to mankind. Sudden increase

of temperature, need to open windows and increase fan or A/C settings

signals change of season. Vaidyas have alert senses to detect change

in seasons and warn people to change the lifestyle. Some trees are

already started bearing flowers of spring, perhaps as a result of

xenoharmones in environment. It is time to aid the detoxification

mood in which body goes around this time. While it is desirable that

we adopt detox procedure as recommended in post# 9351, it is possible

to undertake very slow mode detoxification routine using herbs. This

is for those who have patience and are able to bear with detox

herxheimer reactions, which are mild in slow detox.

Author had discussed ginger as one of the great detoxifier herb in

post#6683. Several patients have common complaints about pains in

hands and legs, stomach, thighs, back, neck, head. Ginger is a

perfect replacement for Tylenol, acetominophen, ibuprofen, NSAIDS,

without any of their serious side effects, if you have patientce too.

Spondilytis, sciatica,

arthritis, frozen shoulder, the intensity all these vata diseases

gets softened by ginger.

Ginger is a tonic and stimulant. It is known to help reduce fever and

cleanse the body of toxins. Thus one can call it ama burner. It is

also anticoagulant, inhibits cell-clotting in our blood, lowers

cholesterol, and reduces migraine headaches. It comes out winner in

these situations compared to many allopathic drugs, which cause

stomach problems and bleeding in many cases. It is a great

alkalizer, the main property useful in treating cancer tumors, as

discussed in post#6683. This fact allows us to interpret it as satvic

in post-digested state, when used in a specific manner described

later. Ginger use in nausea, morning sickness, cramping, and sea

sickness posted in post#5628.

For those who cant undertake systematic liver detox, a simple recipe

to boost immune system and detox the body is given here:

Boil 200 ml water, adding ½-3/4 tsp ginger powder. When water reduces

to 100 ml, squeeze in half a lemon juice, stir and drink. If you

dislike taste, you may add a tsp of honey when decoction is lukewarm.

This tea will help clear your lungs and chest area. It helps reduce

a fever and expel toxins from the body. It is a digestive aid too!

Drinking this tea before meal builds intelligence in our taste buds

to naturally select foods that our body needs on that day. The

cravings for soft carbs etc reduce. All satvic foods share this property. You

may make this tea also from a

piece of fresh ginger root. Crush half an inch long piece and boil

it in water till water quantity becomes half. Strain the tea before

drinking and add honey if needed. While it will act as appetizer

before meals, it acts as digestive aid after meal.

You will notice the effect of this tea on your face within just ten

days. This is also one indirect test for determining satvic foods. They purify

blood so that skin glow is noticeable. But remember to boil water till it

becomes half in volume. In

ayurveda, one can change the properties of several harbs by mixing

them with other herbs or by processing. Post digestion, ginger is

sweet in taste and that is why Vata balancing. When you add 1-6 tsp

castor oil(dose to be chosen by vaidya), it becomes vata-pacifier and

anti-obesity ayurvedic remedy, the testimonial in post#12819. But

adding castor oil is only when you take empty stomach in the morning,

or when ginger is boiled with milk at bedtime. Long term use of this

tea mixed with castor oil helps in varicose veins, which is better

done under supervision of a vaidya. The dosages and support from

other herbs is also needed depending on the patients age, vitality

and lifestyle. Vaidya will provide you with harmonious diet

recommendation, so that herbal advantage is not lost in inappropriate

food combination.
