Guest guest
Respected Mr. Lopez, 1. As per Vedic scriptures, including Ayruveda, there is NO Non-Living thing in creation. Everything has consciousness. The degree of awakened consciousness varies though. And, that why we find so many beings or things. 2. Each n everything in the creation is made of the 3 Gunas...Satva, Rajas, n Tamas. However, the relative proportion differs in everything. These Gunas are much finer than atoms, sub-nuclear particles and even energy. ........... The Gunas are NOT abt moralising, rather ingredients which make Nature exist. Nature is made of that. 3. Violence or Non-violence, or anything for that matter, is neither good nor bad in itself. It all depends on the effect of their use. Violence can also be good for life. And Non-violence can end up being detrimental ...it all depends ! ..... Even chewing the food can be called violence ! 4. The criteria to judge what is good or bad is whether it is conducive to your BEING (existence/life) and BECOMING (furtherance/growth) or not. The important thing to note here is that what is conducive to one's BEING n BECOMING is conducive to everyone's BEING n BECOMING, including Nature's. ..However, this is not so simple to understand. There are lot of things involved. For example, killing of an animal and plaucking a plant ot fruit to eat are NOT in the same category of violence. Because, at different planes of consciousness, the dynamics and effects are different. 5. Coming to food, everyone must eat Satvik food (under normal circumstances), except the cases of medical treatment. Even if all the Gunas are traps, its Satva Guna alone which is the doorway to move out of this trap. ... We must increase the dominance of Satva Guna. 6. Yes, u may find people having Tamasik food morally superior to those taking Satvik food. But that is the consequence of their past thoughts n deeds (including food). Present is the consequence of the past, and future will be the consequence of the present. So, at whatever level ( on impact of 3 gunas) they are today, the one taking Tamasik food is increasing his Tamo Guna, while the one taking Satvik food is increasing his Satva Guna. And, other thoughts n deeds, apart from food, will also play an important role. But food is a major player. 7. Surely, we have to rise above Gunas, but that can't be achived by negating the Gunas. As long as one is living in this creation of Gunas, one is bound by it. The doorway to go out is Satva Guna. 8. Nowhere Buddha has recommended eating meat !! Nowhere has he recommended consuming Tamasik stuffs. 9. Killing or not Killing is NOT the criterion. The criterion is SATVIK food. 10. Charak, and ancient Indian sage-scientists have explained the attributes of all plants n animal/bird meats and their effects on the mind and the body. As scientists n doctors they have understood n written on these things. But they DO NOT recommend Rajasik or Tamasik food for normal consumption. 11. Eggs may be found nutritious as per many criteria. But it increases TAMO Guna and leads to one's downfall if used for normal consumption. Maybe it can be used as medicine where other options are not avlbl. But NEVER for regular consumption. Increase in Tamo Guna leads to gradual stupefying of consciousness. regards Yashendra ______________________________ Whether an unfertilised ovum is considered " life " has not really been defined. With regard to taking life, and whether it is violent, tamasic, or " bad karma " , I believe this is subject to much personal opinion and moralising.
