Guest guest
Dear members, I am suffering with restrictive movement of my right shoulder since last 4 months. Supspected as frozen shoulder I am massaging with MahaNarayan taila and getting medicines like RASNADI GUGGULAM AND VATGAJANKUSH RAS from India ( as mentioned in earlier posts for somebody). I am getting pain when I try to apply sudden force on the elbow and shoulder and I cant reach my back. After doing massage with taila and exercises I noticed improvement and there is big lump of extra mass on right side of right chest and right belly swollen abnormally (Near Lymphatic nodes). I am suspecting this is due to restricted passage or blocking of lymphatic fluid by the node. So the pain which I suspected due to VATA disorder initially, turned out to be Lymphatic disorder (my guess). My question is can I use the above medicines? If not, What will be the right medication and advise. I am aware this time I have changed my lifestyle which enhanced VATA but at the same time I have this Lymphatic disorder symptoms since last 20 years which started due to mosquito bite(Filariasis) when I was in India 20 years ago. I request to offer proper advise by the knowledgeable persons. Best Regards,
Guest guest
Taking some tablets and applying oil on the joints is not adequate. Vata disorders require much more. The time span of this problem suggests it has a significant vata contribution. The dryness inside the joints can be reduced by adding correct fats to the diet. While Indian cow's ghee is best, non-availability makes it necessary to substitute it by sesame oil. Take green vegetables, after sauting them with asfoetida, mustard, cumin seeds, turmeric, coriander seeds, fenugreek seeds. Foods having Sweet, salty and saur tastes can be added in the diet. Exercise as per capacity, adequate sleep, herbs to aid hunger and digestion, buttermilk after lunch, avoiding excessive indulgence or total suppression of the natural urges, meditation, late night work, sleep during day, not going to bed within 1 hour after dinner are some more measures which will help. While vata resides all over the body, its presence is dominant at the bladder, intestines, back, waist(pelvic region), the thighs, legs, joints in bones. The colon is considered Vata throne, where its first vitiation symptoms will be felt. Taking garlic one clove in the morning or at bedtime helps generally all Vata problems. Covering the organ by woolen cloth and local fomentation so that it does not get affected by cold climate is one simple remedy. But fomentation may not offer relief if pitta is also vitiated. Hot and liquid foods such as soups will help. Taking sweet fruit juices in the morning helps. When fresh fruits are not available, soaked date/raisin crush is a good substitute. The above may help you reduce stiffness/pain. Since you mention swollen lymphatic node too, do not treat this as a standard condition. Vata strikes where some old accidental fractures have left a weakness. Or a wound, swelling has left scar tissue/toxic dump. The swelling might suggest some chronic problem needing long time changes in diet, lifestyle, herbal remedy. Ayurveda and allopathy differ in one important respect. Do not try to adopt the standard prescription. It may give some benefit. But each patient is different. Visit an ayurveda practitioner. In a forum like this, complete understanding of the patients problem is not possible. Dr Bhate I am suffering with restrictive movement of my right shoulder since last 4 months. Guest guest
Dr Bhate, Namaskar and thank you very much for an insighted reply. I take garlic as you suggested and use sesame oil. You mentioned about herbal medicines to increase hunger and digestion. Can you suggest some names and a place to buy. I dont have a Vaidya where I live ( Central Canada) but I can get from India. I am having poor metabolism since child hood and whenever I eat some extra food, my body fails to digest and convert in to toxins adding weight. Now I am over weight and working to reduce by dieting. These extra toxins fail to get flush out due to my weak Lymphatic system and Vaata issues developed over years. Do you suggest any detox Ayurvedic medicines to clean up my colon and kidney and rejunevate( I can't go for a Panchakarma here). I am going to allopathy doctors here but they could not able to diagnose as they look for physical symptoms ( Lower or dalit way of doing the things) but fail to understand this VATA concept and offer some drugs to control flammability but nothing else. I would be very thankful to you if you throw some extra light for a faster recovery. The place where I live is very cold about -20c now but I will not expose. Namaskar.. Before that try some home remedies given by another vaidya: ayurveda/message/11324 > Do you suggest any detox > Ayurvedic medicines to clean up my colon and kidney and rejunevate( I > can't go for a Panchakarma here). There are files in our files section, Articles folder, which treat detoxification. Fruit Detox, Fasting, etc is considered there. Fasting has also been discussed at: ayurveda/message/9552 > The place where I live is very cold about -20c now > but I will not expose. If you have spent major part of your life in India, be very very careful. a distant relative went to spend few months with his son in Detroit during winter. Enjoyed winter sports, did some travel too. After coming back in April, he was struck by a Vata disease exhibiting the symptoms of MS and Parkinson's disease together. Lost patience with slow progress of ayurvedic treatment which is characteristic of Vata during extreme climates. After switching to allopathy, he survived only 6 months!
