Guest guest
My 6 weeks old daughter is having trouble with gas pain. She is breast fed and is not on any bottle milk. She stools on alternate days or after 36-48 hrs. We have started giving her water, which she doesn't like to drink and also try to lay her on her stomach once in a while but she won't stay for long. We live in colder region in USA and use humidifiers and heaters to maintain temperature.
Guest guest
Hi… It is not uncommon for a baby to have a hard time with her mothers milk… With a six week old you should contact your pediatrician… He will probably have you try a commercial formula to see if that helps, but you do need to contact him/she… Noel
Guest guest
If a baby is having trouble with moms milk - mom needs to look at what she is eating she also needs to know if she has enough milk. mom must eat very easy to digest food so that baby does not get gas fennel, fenugreek, cinnamon, cumin will help with milk production and will reduce gas and increase digestion for mom chick peas must be avoided, gassy vegetables like cabage and cauliflower must be avoided, raw vegetables should be avoided. squashes, gourds and cucmber family, carrots, beets all can be made as stews or soups to give good milk and good digestion for both mom and baby. It is extremely important to regulate the diet after delivery for the sake of mom's recovery and baby's good health. ____________ Hi… It is not uncommon for a baby to have a hard time with her mothers milk…
Guest guest
U can massage her abdomen with 1/4 th tsf of warm castor oil . Start the massage gently from the centr point of the abdomen , i.e. , umbilicus . It is the Grahani location . Massage the oil clockwise starting from the umbilicus in the centre & do it from inner side to outer side . Do this for 5 minutes a day , preferably in the morning . One another simple home remedy is as follows . Take 1/2 tsf of asafoetida powder . Add water & make a paste . Heat it . Apply this warm mixture on her abdomen with umbilicus as the central point . Keep it there for 30 min . Then wsh the abdomen . U can do this everyday for 7 days regularly . It benefits the gases problem . Even if trying these remedies the gas problem remains , then there may be a problem in the Breastmilk of her mother . It should be treated to cure the baby's problem . For this , it will be good to consult nearest Ayurveda Vaidya . ______________________ My 6 weeks old daughter is having trouble with gas pain. She is breast fed and is not on any bottle milk. Guest guest
Simple home remedies mentioned by Dr Gandhi, for gas/constipation of 6 week old baby are very easy and convenient for Indians abroad. Moms have an important responsibility of transferring this part of ayurveda to next generation. Unless the baby and/or mother has had some antibiotics/vaccines in recent past, this type of problem is rare, with mothers milk creating healthy flora in baby's intestines. Baby picks up probiotics right while moving through the birth passage. If mother was suffering from candidiasis, she would pass on that too, which may cause this gas problem. If any of the above has occured(antibiotics/vaccines), let mother take curd/buttermilk in adequate quantity during or after lunch. A clove of garlic, chewed by mom in half a cup of water in mouth, early morning empty stomach, will help baby too. She can take garlic at bedtime too, as suggested in message#15042. If baby does not like drinking water, add 1-2 drops of lemon juice to water. Once she starts liking, stop the lemon. Mother should reduce vata promoting diet and increase spices such as fenugreek, ginger, black pepper and ghee, sesame oil etc in her diet. Simply taking ginger tea for 2-3 days should help. Soaking 100 fenugreek seeds in a cup of water of at bedtime, and taking this water in the morning before breakfast would help baby's constipation, which should reduce gas formation. The ayurvedic shops in Mumbai sell a set of herbs, to be ground on stone, in a little water or mothers milk and give paste to baby once a day. This takes care of indigestion, gas, constipation, boosts digestion and also gives good sleep too. But some preliminary knowledge of herbs is needed to use this set effectively. The set is populalrly called Janma-ghuti herbs. A ready mixture in the form of a bar is more convenient, but them formula can't be modified by expert mom.
