Guest guest
Sri Ram, jai Ram, jaia jaia, Ram Om (this is phonetic I'm afraid) is what we use to chant while they were preparing our food in the Siddah Yoga Ashram in Melbourne in 1979 Best, Jane

Guest Guest
mrtyunjaya mantra is really good to chant while one is cooking. oṁ tryambakaṁ yajāmahe sugandhiṁ puṣṭi-vardhanam ǀ urvārukam-iva bandhanān mṛtyormukṣīya māmṛtāt ǁ " the energy that you have when you are cooking will also come into the food that you are preparing. You are giving your energy in the food. Please do not cook when you are angry. Then you put anger in your food. Cook when you are in good mood or make your mood good before you start cooking." -Jaisiyaram Cooking is a powerful tool because if good thoughts and mantras are chanted while cooking, then the person eating the food will be affected positively. However, if food is cooked in anger, or with hatred, or any other negative qualities, than the food can really damage a person physically and energy wise. That's why Amma says for the spiritual seeker, it is best to avoid eating in restaurants as the people cooking food there are cooking with the feeling of making money. If one cooks to nourish and uplift others, this is the best type of food. While cooking, pick a mantra which you can really connect with, and chant it while cooking. I find that the tara mantra, Oṃ Tāre Tuttāre Ture Svāhā can make the mind focused. If you have any ishta devata (favorite deity), then look for that deities mantra, it can be from the ashtotram (108 names of the deity) or from the sahasranamam (1008 names of the diety), or even the vedic mantra for the deity. Any mantra works, as long as you feel that it works for you should be chanted.
