Guest guest
What does Ayurveda say about unintended weight loss? I have lost 50 lbs in 4 months, which is 15% of my body weight. My doctor makes it very plain that she thinks I am malingering whenever I talk to her, since she has done a cbc, gliadin antibody test, and tested for parasites and fecal occult blood and all negative. I am not sure about the value of the tests since I am pretty certain that I contaminated the fecal occult test with menstrual blood by accident, but it came back negative. Whenever I go see this doc, she congratulates me on my weight loss to the point where I get the feeling that she doesn't even see me as a person just that I am fat.I would be happy about it too if I didn't feel so sick and tired all the time and have to throw up or have very bad diarrhea on an unpredictable basis. I can't plan to go anywhere. I try to fast first so there is nothing to throw up, but that seems to be worse. I have had to run out of the room to the restroom when I am teaching, get sick, and come back to teach more and my classes are only an hour and 15 minutes long. This is really messing with my life. I have been anemic for almost a year but it is not bad and she claims it is from my medications. She is overjoyed that I am losing weight to the point where she is blind to anything bad that could be causing it. My stomach feels like a rat is inside trying to gnaw its way out and I get really bloated and throw up everything I eat almost. My diet has gotten really awful; I was on track with keeping the blood sugar down, but my doc told me just to eat what I can and what I can hold down is not really great for a diabetic. The doctor says I am losing weight because I am throwing up all my food--well, duh. She will prescribe all the promethazine I ask for for the vomiting, but I vomit it up too and it really just impairs me. I know people on chemo who don't throw up as often as I do. I have started smoking pot again, so I am not losing weight so fast or puking so much but I had rather stay legal if at all possible. My prakriti tends to be vata-pitta when in balance, but I don't feel at all in balance and feel like maybe pitta is high since I am very very hot all the time and with the stomach stuff. Any ideas would help. Darla
Guest guest
Your symptoms: * lost 50 lbs in 4 months, which is 15% body weight * feel so sick and tired all the time and have to throw up or have very bad diarrhea on an unpredictable basis * anemic for almost a year, controlling diabetes somehow * stomach feels like a rat is inside trying to gnaw its way out and I get really bloated and throw up everything I eat almost * but I vomit promethazine too and it impairs me * feel like maybe pitta is high since very very hot all the time Together with your postings to the group in past which describe your past medication, Please get following things checked from a vaidya. 1. Displacement of Nabhi chakra 2. Any hardness, soreness in liver area 3. Hardness, soreness in spleen area 4. Check tongue early morning for whitish, brownish deposits 5. Do stools have foul smell, maroon/black/dark colors? any presence of mucous in the stools? any pains while passing stools? 6. Did you have any " low fever " feeling in past few weeks? Severe pre-menstrual cramps, pains, scanty flow? Please act fast, unintended weight loss predicts a long term treatment in ayurveda. You have come to the ded end of modern science. Poisoning of the intestinal flora by long term synthetic medication, worsening pH of the blood, the loss of capability to absorb nutrients as in " Grahani " disease defined by ayurveda, leaky gut as a result of systemic candidiasis...many reasons could be there. Despite scientific definitions, a vaidya can cure by using pulse and tests described in ancient tests (termed ashta-vidh pariksha) as a guide. Ayurvedic treatments in such cases are inexpensive but take a long time to heal both body and mind. Dr Bhate _________ What does Ayurveda say about unintended weight loss? Guest guest
This is just a support suggestion. take pomegranate juice and bark of the fruit ground a paste say ten grams with buttermilk will improve your digestion to some extent. i believe you wont loose much weight further I suspect some unwanted organism in the gut which doctors may not track out. If you are with in India under the supervision of ayurvedic physician take zinc, silver, iron Bhasma along with jeeragthi lehiyam R.Vidhyasagar. _________ What does Ayurveda say about unintended weight loss? Guest guest
Thanks, I am not in India, but in Louisiana. I thought it could have been c. dificile since I had just finished taking huge doses of antibiotics for about a month then got sick a couple of weeks later. The doc claims she tested me for that and I don't have it. I will try the pomegranate; it sounds good. I have had all this for a year now but just started the vomiting and losing weight about 4 months ago. I have to find someone close by; I can get herbs and some good advice from garrynsun.com but they are across the country and this seems to be serious. ............................................... > This is just a support suggestion. take pomegranate juice > and bark of the fruit ground a paste say ten grams with buttermilk will > improve your digestion to some extent. Guest guest
Darla: I am not interferring with the doctor's advice here but I would also recommend another fecal test. I was plagued with problems for years here in USA and 12 years later after a round of antimalaria medicine while travelling was better while on it. Testing finally showed that I had Humanis blastocystis which is normally thrown off easily but I had gotten overrun. A three week treatment cured that and also most of my food sensitivities esp milk ones. It is my belief that many USA labs are unused to parasitic testing and you might want to get a second opinion at a differet lab. Hope you are feeling better soon! Guest guest
Thanks, Dr. Bhate, The #4, 5, 6 are true, especially the tongue is white and very red tip and sides have a lot of canyons in the sides. The fever feeling is bad and I think that is a lot of hot flashes. The only soreness is around the center of my belly between the sternum and the navel. Funny you should mention the menstrual stuff--I had 3 periods last year and none this one so far.Any time in the past I have skipped, I have been seriously ill. Now I am 50 though and expecting menopause so I am not sure whether to connect the skips to the illness or the menopause. I will look up information on the Nabhi chakra. Grahani--is that like the Chinese triple burner, or where the Agni lives? I have been reading about amlapitta. Is this that kind of condition? I am hunting for a vaidya close by here in Louisiana and haven't found one yet but will look more diligently. I am thankful this list is here and am learning a lot from you all--just thought I would say so while I was thinking about it. Darla ------------------ PLease get checked 1. Guest guest
First go through the following post to know what is grahani ayurveda/message/6964 Long term usage of immuno-suppresants and antacids such as prevacid causes the loss of control on stomach acid secretion and causes throwing up everything except may be fruits juices. The only food that may not throw up will be perhaps soaked raisins/dates and juice of bottle gourd. Try coriander (cilantro) juice before taking anyother juice first, for few days. The case of a such patient has been described at: ayurveda/message/7272 Fruis such as apple, guava, papaya, pineapple (sweetened with crystal sugar in case it is sour) will also help natural detoxification. Based on the location of pain, tongue report, menstrual history, medication history it is clear to this author that you have residues of long term allopathy in liver, left lobe and also suffering from candidiasis, which gives rise to a variety of auto-immune conditions. You need to undergo liver detox under supervision. In case it is not possible, try eight day liver detox programme mentioned in archives, at your own responsibility. In that case you may carry out some recommendations in message 7272, for quick relief, you may order some herbal formulations from aayurherb.com It is important to note that the present state is the culmination of long term stress from the worries about the daughter. Recommendations of message 7272 will benifit her too, if taken properly. Tulsi, dates, Godanti bhasma has given miracle result, which is posted by the wife of the patient at ayurvedaonlie. Guest guest
Thanks. I will look up all the links. My daughter just gave me a 2 kilo bag of dates from Saudi Arabia and they are delicious. Most juices work well for me. Tomato juice is good right now. The appetite is a funny thing. I still get hungry. I had a theory that the prevacid was killing off my stomach acid and was taking it because the cardiologist prescribed it to keep the plavix from eating a hole in my stomach. I quit taking the plavix and that helped some. Quit taking the prevacid and not sure if that helped or not, so continued to take it. ______________________ First go through the following post to know what is grahani ayurveda/message/6964 ayurveda/message/7272
Guest guest
I don't know why they seem to teach a lot of the doctors here that Americans don't get parasites. I had an Indian gi specialist once, who when I told him I had seen pieces of tapeworm in my stool just treated me and no more problems (years ago). I would dearly love to see him again; he was a great doctor. I live in the south in a semi tropical area and we used to have all kinds of parasites in the area till the health people got everyone to wear shoes when I was very small. The environment has gotten hotter and steamier, so I don't think the parasites really went anywhere... ________ I am not interferring with the doctor's advice here but I would also recommend another fecal test. Guest guest
Houston is probably the closest. I didn't think we had any people here from the Sanatana Dharma, either, but there is a local Gita study group, so I may be pleasantly surprised. I haven't been lately, not feeling too good. Many of them are professors at the local University and I am not sure how they feel about ayurveda, but it should be interesting to find out. _____________ I don't think anyone even knows what Ayurveda is in LA.? Guest guest
You were right about the grahani. I just had an EGD test that showed gastritis and the doctor bet my daughter $10 that I have h. pylori. The biopsies aren't in yet. I feel like there is a mass in my abdomen, but haven't really mentioned it to the doctor, because I felt like she didn't believe me about all the other until I threw up 3 times during my last office visit. After 15 months of my constant complaints, she finally scheduled the test and it does show that something is wrong. Basically, she is a good doctor, just very very cautious. She is in a teaching hospital and is just finishing up her residency. My stomach is burning like crazy and I am still throwing up and losing weight in spite of doubling my calories, so we will see what happens. I just posted this because I am finding the correspondences between Ayurveda and the more Western medicine very interesting. Before I had the test, I told the doctor about grahani and it should be very interesting to see her face when she gets the results.
