Here's my 2 cents after undergoing candida treatment using diet and herbs

recently. In fact, I am still on the same diet and getting better everyday..

First, the diet -- To begin with, stop sugar COMPLETELY, bread and white flour

products COMPLETELY, fruits and fruit juices COMPLETELY and pasteurized milk and

milk products COMPLETELY. The best foods are vegetables, grains like Millet,

Quinoa, Amaranth, and Rice (sometimes), mung beans, extra virgin coconut oil or

ghee (extra virgin olive oil is okay too), and nuts (except peanuts). Organic

version of these should be preferred.

Start with this diet and continue for about 1 month. With the diet alone, you

will start feeling better in one or two weeks.

Next, once the candida weakens, start taking garlic with a small dose of one

small bud (of organic garlic preferably), then increase it every week or every

other week by one bud. If you get die-off reactions (your existing/earlier

symptoms will worsen), cut back on the dose.

You should take the garlic crushed with water on empty stomach in the morning.

The good thing I learned about garlic is that compared to other candida-killer

herbs, it is the only one that is kind to the beneficial bacteria while

eliminating candida and other sinister bacteria.

At the same time that you start taking garlic, start taking a probiotic along

with every meal and/or half an hour after taking the garlic. More natural the

probiotic, the better. Since I did not want to take buttermilk (due to the fact

that it's derived from harmone-contaminated dairy in the US), I chose a product

called " Coco-biotic "  (http://www.bodyecologydiet.com) which is nothing but kefir

made out of coconut water. It gave me better results than other commercial

probiotic tablets that I tried.

If you are in India, you can try taking homemade buttermilk instead of the

coco-biotic which is certainly not available there.

Anyway, for me, it has been almost 5 months since I started on the diet + garlic

+ probiotic, and I feel much better now. All the problems are not gone

completely, but some of them have vanished and others are better than before.

One word of caution: Die-off reactions can be very severe -- so do NOT take the

garlic or any other anti-candida herb in the beginning. First weaken the candida

with diet and then try to kill them -- they die more quitely then.

While on the diet, be careful not to disturb your doshic balance. Not taking any

sugar or sweet tasting food for a long time can vitiate your Pitta and even Vata

-- so, keep that in mind and eat in a way to keep them balanced.. At the same

time, while you are on the diet, follow it AS CLOSELY AS POSSIBLE -- never

include what's prohibited -- one mistake and you are back to square one!

This was the formula that I followed, your situation could be a little different

than mine, so consult a Vaidya to make sure that the diet/herb/probiotic plan

would be okay for you.

Hope this helps,

Matt

  • 3 weeks later...

Just a thought on candida treatment that I feel is relevant here.

What I witnessed while undergoing candida treatment is that whenever I strayed

away from the candida diet and indulged in a prohibited food item, my symptoms

came back very quickly! That's why the urge to follow the diet STRICTLY in all

candida literature online.

Pondering over the root cause of candida, intestinal toxicity comes to mind..

With an improved and focused diet, what you are trying to do is " not add " to the

toxicity already present in the intestines. Adding probiotic and candida-killer

herbs certainly brings back and keeps the intestinal flora in balance. Though

the original toxicity that caused the candida to overgrow in the first place

still needs to be addressed! Unless you take care of that, there is really no

long term cure for candida -- that is very likely to be the reason why so many

people try to get rid of candida, but always complain about the fact that as

soon as they stray away from the diet, they get the symptoms back -- even after

being on the candida diet for as long a time as a year or more!

So, I think that a detox to clean your intestine is equally in order. But then

you cannot clean your intestine without first effectively cleaning your liver,

etc. So, ideally you should be consulting a vaidya to get detoxed.

Going further, why did the intestine become toxic in the first place? The answer

is simple -- the lifestyle! Here, lifestyle includes diet, daily routine, type

of work, level of stress, etc. Everything that we do on a daily basis gets

imprinted in the intestines and results in good/bad health. Even the thoughts

and surroundings when you take your food affect how the food will be digested

and assimilated into your bloodstream! I am sure that most of us have more

pressing lifestyle corrections that they need to make.

One surprising factor (or rather not-so-surprising factor) behind the intestinal

toxicity in my opinion is the use of the allopathic drugs! That has been at

least my experience so far. In one of my previous posts, I wrote about getting

frequent burps (almost every 3-5 seconds) throughout the day. The Vaidya I

consulted in India blamed it on the prolonged use of antipsychotic drugs --

while I tried to believe him, I tended to blame it on some supernatural cause as

my mental illness motivated me to believe so. That was almost a year ago. I am

feeling better and my thought process has improved to a great extent now. Also,

a recent experience showed me the way.

Since about 4 months ago, I have started weaning myself off of the antipsychotic

that I am on. I used to take 100 mg of Amisulpride. As per the Vaidya's

suggestion, I started taking 10 mg off every month. To do that, I would first

put the 100 mg pill into 5 ml of water and then after about 20-30 minutes, I

would shake it up and take 1-3 ml of the mixture out and drink the rest of it.

In that process, I witnessed two things. The pill does NOT dissolve in the water

-- and that seems to be true of most of the allopathic medicines. It

precipitates if you let the mixture sit for even a few seconds! I can only

imagine how the particles of the drug sit in the intestine causing intestinal

toxicity in the long run. To top it off, I noticed that the dropper that I use

to suck out 1-3 ml of the mixture soon showed deposits of the drug on its

inside!!! When I bought the dropper, it was transparent and now I can clearly

see the off-white deposits on the inside. I do clean the inside with water

everytime I suck out the mixture! So, there should not have been any trace of

the drug particles left later. I wish I could post a photograph of the dropper

for everyone to see -- before and after.

It is quite possible that most of the allopathic drugs create intestinal

toxicity of some sort and play a role in spoiling the digestion. So, other than

sticking to a diet and use of probiotics and candida-killers, I would urge the

candida sufferers to get detoxed and get off of the allopathic meds, if they are

on one -- replacing them with better diet, herbs, exercise and spirituality.

Regards,

Matt
