Your information is correct. The experience of traditional vaidyas

cant be summarised just by a quantifier " some " .

While knowingly or unknowingly todays ObGyn steers a pregnancy to C-

section in most cases, the exceptional skills of a tribal vaidya

without any formal qualification stands in sharp contrast. Visit

India and see how birts are handled by tribal vaidyas. FRLHT is

trying to encourage the growth of Indias heritage in such skills.

Smt. Mastammma, a tribal woman from Hebbalahadi village, Hunsoor

taluk, Mysore District, was awarded the Paramparika Vaidya Rathna

award for the year 2004-05. Mastammma has handled more than 2000

deliveries, including many complicated cases like breach delivery and

entanglement of umbilical cord, in the tribal areas of Hunsur Taluk.

She also treats uterine prolapse, all menstrual problems, infertility,

jaundice and many paediatric conditions.

The association(s) of traditional vaidyas in India are trying to revive

all traditional medical arts, where experience and " in-born " skills

count. Please visit:

I believe there is a centre in or near Bangalore website FRLHT that

has some experience with this.
