The branch of Ayurveda called as Rasashastra deals the preparation

and purification of the minerals used in the compound drugs prepared

along with the herbal drugs. The end products of the process are

highly complex herbomineral compounds which have not only the

efficacy of treating the ailment rapidly but also got deep

penetration. Most of these preparations are in use for centuries in

our country. But so far we have not come across any serious toxicity

effect of any of the medicines.

I feel the medicnes have compound

complex molecules which either do not interact with the tissue are do

not get absorption. However they exert the targeted effect on the

tissue. One has to verify that how many reports are available

reporting the toxicity. The physical parameters of counting in ppm

etc, may not help to decide the toxicity but biological parameters

should be evolved. The deep penetrating actions and other advantages

of these drugs can be ignored. So scientific study to explore the

toxicity of the compounds prepared in standarad method should be

started.
