I have an Aunt that is predominantly Vata… She is 80 now, and does

everything wrong when it comes to diet… She has the worst Rheumatoid

Arthritis I have ever see… She laughs about it, calling her hands her

claws… She has had both feet operated on, so she can keep walking…

She is a great lady, a saint and does not know it…

Kapha can be Tamas; Pitta can be Rajas, and Vata Sattva… and in there

lays the answer to longevity when it comes to predominantly Vata

people… Tamas must go through Rajas to get to Sattva, and Rajas must

go through Sattva to get to saint hood… Predominantly Vata people

have the opportunity to be a saint, if a strong desire is there… But

just because you become a saint does not mean you will, or even want

to live a long time… Longevity is not necessarily a good thing… but

working toward being a saint is… here is a diet for such a

goal

SATTVIC OR YOGIC DIET

FRUIT: Just about all fruit is alright. Smaller quantities of the

heavier fruits such as bananas and avocado's.

VEGETABLES: Most vegetables are all right. Smaller quantities of

the cabbage family plants, broccoli, cauliflower, brussell sprouts,

mustard, as they are gas forming. Smaller amounts of potatoes and

sweet potatoes as well as they are heavy. No mushrooms. Vegetables

may be fresh or steamed.

GRAINS: Rice, basmatti rice, wheat, oats. Eat whole or as bread.

Eat more in the winter for strength.

BEANS: Mung, Aduki, and tofu.

SEEDS / NUTS: Fresh or slightly roasted. Almonds, walnuts, pine nuts.

Do not eat heavy quantities. They should be fresh.

DAIRY: Raw milk, small amounts of freshly made yogurt, and raw mild

cheese.

INTERNAL OILS: Ghee, olive.

EXTERNAL OILS: Sandalwood, saffron, camphor frankincense, lotus, and

rose.

SWEETENERS: Honey, raw sugar, and jaggery. These in small quantities

only.

SPICES: Ginger, cinnamon, cardamom, fennel, coriander, and turmeric.

Use in larger quantities as they help balance the dampness of the

high fruit and dairy diet, Avoid garlic and raw onions. Also avoid

cayenne pepper and all other very pungent spices.

BEVERAGES: Pure spring water, sattvic herb teas such as chamomile and

mint, raw milk, sattvic vegetable juices.

HERBS: Gotu Kola, calamus, triphala, aloe gel, jatasmani,

ashwaganda, shatavari, saffron, rose, lotus, bhrigaraj, skull cap,

sage, mint, ginseng, astragalus, and comfrey. Chyawanprash and

Brahma jelly.

GENERAL EATING HABITS: Eat the main meal at 12:00 – 1:00. Eat no

heavy food after sunset. Follow general eating habits and

recommendations on proper food combining.

Yes… But only if all other things are equal… longevity can be effected

by so many other numerous factors… environment is a big one… diet and

ones state of mind… You can have a predominantly Vata body and a kapha

mind, and visa versa… But yes! If you have a predominantly Vata person

and a predominantly Kapha person and they have the exact same life, and

that includes planet placement at time of birth, and karma, then a

Kapha person will out live the Vata person…

Yes . It is true . Vataj predominant persons may have a short & non healthy

lifespan as compared to Pittaj or Kaphaj body type .

It is told in the Samhitas that Kaphaj body type can have the longest &

healthiest lifespan . Pittaj body type , can have medium ( shorter than Kaphaj

type & larger than Vataj type ) long & healthy lifespan . Vataj body type have

the shortest & unhealthiest lifespan .

Ayurveda states that , if the body constitution ( Prakriti ) is purely Kaphaj

type or Pittaj type or Vataj type , then these are the lifespans as told earlier

.. But nowadays , it is really difficult to get any person with only single Dosha

predominant body type as Kaphaj or Pittaj or Vataj type .

   Only Mixed constitutions like -

Kapha predominant with other doshas . ( Other doshas may include only Pitta /

Vata or both . )

2) Pitta predominant with other doshas . ( Same as above )

3) Vata predominant with other doshas . ( Same as above )

So , in mixed constitutions , this rule can be relaxed as other doshas can

balance the predominance of the main Dosha type . Like in Vataj predmidominance

, Kapha or Pitta can balance the predominance of Vata .

To balance the predominance of the doshas , there are certain therapies &

Pathya - Apathya ( restrictions of food intake & routine habbits ) , which can

be applied to curb the predominance of the dosha . Specially , the use of Sesame

oil is the best source to balance the Vata dosha .

In Vataj type , the Use of any type of Oily medium , from outside the body in

the form of Massage or from inside the body , in the form of Basti ( Enema of

Oil ) & Oral administration of Oil . Also the use of Swedana ( steam bath ,

sauna bath ) from the decoctions of the medicines that balances the vata dosha

is also helpful .

In diet , the use of Ghee , Sesame oil , restriction of Dry foods like Bread ,

Beans etc can have good help . A proper timed sleep is also helpful . Late

night sleep will also have negative impact . The use of ice cold water & food

items can increase the Vata dosha , causing more imbalance in the body . The

decreased use of ACs in the Office - Cars - Home is beneficial too .

But to asses the perfection what to do for ur body , it is always wise to

consult any Ayurvedic physician for that . If anybody can present the data with

the practical experience will be more helpful to all .
