Guest guest
Dear Vaidyas: I have been trying to treat my candidiasis for over 3 months now and have been learning new things almost every day. There is so much information on the Internet. So far as anti-candida diet is concerned, every website/doctor has his own version of it. Some say you can have tomatoes, some say you can't. Some say it's okay to have rice, some say don't. Etc. Etc. That is so confusing. For now, I am on a diet that consists of only the organic veggies, oils like ghee, coconut and olive (extra virgin organic), and grains like millet, quinoa, and amaranth. No dairy (even yogurt is a no), No gluten, No rice, No beans (including mung beans!), No nightshade veggies (red potatoes are okay!), No mushroom/garlic/onions (Because I want to follow a sattvik diet), and No sugar, honey or fruits. What a diet! This is a recommendation that comes from bodyecology.com. So far, it seems to be working! The die-off reactions have lessened and so have my mental symptoms except occasional aggravation. I have taken the liberty of adding a few other grains and non-grain items that I eat on " ekadasi " only -- like Tapioca, Buckwheat, Samo, and Phool Makhana. So, even though I am not eating rice or wheat, I have plenty of choices to choose from. When I checked older posts on this group, I found Todd's recommendations on diet for candida. Nowhere does it say anything about rice or mung beans (or any other beans for that sake). I keep thinking about why Khichari made out brown rice and whole green mung beans should be a no as Candida diet. What a candida diet aims to do is reduce ama to the extent that it's non-existent so that the candida does not have anything to feed on. Well, Ayurveda has always held the belief that khichari is the most digestible preparation of all. So, I wanted to ask the Vaidyas who have experience treating candidiasis if they think that Khichari is okay as anti-candida diet. My next question is related to a symptom that I have been fighting for a long time: incessant odorless intestinal burps. I woke up tonight at 1 am and have not been able to go back to sleep due to the burps. They just keep coming! Tried everything from eating something to drinking ice cold water. A vaidya recommended taking cold milk, but since dairy is prohibited on my diet, I cannot try that. I read somewhere on the net that 1/2 tsp of Sodium Carbonate with 1/2 glass of water 3 times a day is helpful with burps -- it makes the intestine more alkaline eventually killing off all the yeast that is there. Does anyone have any experience with Sodium carbonate as a solution for yeast/burps. The article claimed that Sodium Carbonate combines with the CO2 in the gas to produce Sodium Bi-carbonate. If this solution has worked for anyone, could you please tell me from where I can obtain Sodium Carbonate? The baking Soda is Sodium Bi- carbonate, not Sodium Carbonate -- so, that is out... Last but not the least, the die-off reaction for me triggers severe mental symptoms - I start having suicidal thoughts and sometimes burst into fits of anger. So, it's really important for me to keep those symptoms in control while I undergo candida treatment. I came across a product called " Molybdenum Picolinate " ( http://www.modernherbalist.com/products/molybdenum.html). The website claims that molybdenum is absent from the top soil in the US, so it cannot be obtained from plant sources at all! And, molybdenum cleans the cells of the toxins that they accumulate from the candida die-off. Candida die-off generates lots of neuro-toxins and much of them get imprisoned inside cells near the intestines, while the rest get carried over to the brain via the blood. The imprisoned toxins are secreted slowly and get carried over the brain later. Molybdenum helps drive those toxins out of the cells and carries them out of the body. Does anyone have any experience with it? Ultimately I will just try it out and see if it really works as claimed, but wanted to find out if anyone agrees/disagrees with the claim. Guest guest
The problem of incessant chronic burps was addressed in http://health.ayurveda/message/13227 wherin simple remedies were also described. Sodium bi carbonate (cooking soda) is also recommended as one quick fix remedy, not causing addiction. In this post, author tries to give one simple food item which has been found to be useful in such cases. The green gram falls in the legumes/lentil class. Moong, Toor and Masur belong to the class of Shimbi grains as per Yogratnakara text, a sea of medicine formulations. They have Kashayaa rasa(astringent), Madhur rasa and are sangrahi, meaning trying to form the stools. Pungent in Vipaka, but Sheetal hence useful in Medroga, Kapha diseases and also Raktapitta (the diseases which cause heavy bleeding). Moong gram floor is useful as lepa in several skin diseases including psoriasis. Amongst the three legumes whose common properties are given here, Mung bean (Green gram) is best. Can be given to a wounded person, whose wounds need to be healed, the patients suffering from throat diseases for whom swallowing is most difficult(mouth, throat, thyroid cancer), also useful for people suffering from eye diseases. Mung bean causes anulomana (pacification) of Vata. Even Kalathi has this property, but green gram is superior as it is slightly laxative. Fever patients can take mung bean water when their hunger starts. The use of Mung bean for curing sciatica, a very diffciult vata disease has been posted in Message 2765, while it restored the weight-loss mechanism as posted by a patient in message#12819, of course here patient had stopped taking salt fully and was taking parijatak leaves, castor oil as vata pacifier medicines. As a remote patient, you may experiment with these approaches. Hit the root problem, i.e. Vata. Burps are only symptoms. Some food items in messsage http://health.ayurveda/message/5816 will be helpful in tackling candida, but candida takes long time to bring under control. Todd would have given a better guidance with his deeper understanding of candidiasis, but he has left the group following recent opinion-war on ashwagandha. You may write him off-list. (Members too encouraged to express their reactions). The apparent mismatches in samhita ayurveda and research/spiritual ayurveda do get resolved through such discussions, but egos should not come into picture. Guest guest
According to Ayurveda, when just diet or medicines do not help, it is high-time to purge the toxins/unwanted elements from the body by Panchkarma body-cleansing techniques. In your case, I feel that Vaman and Virechan are required to remove the underlying problem as well as to get rid of die-off reaction.
