Guest guest
Have you searched the message search option on the list message page? Have you tried increasing your water intake and trying yoga, pranayama and relaxation? Hypertension is something the allopaths love to give you a pill for, I don't believe that Ayurveda works like that - the body is not a machine but the individual themselves can control their bodily functions, including blood pressure, to a greater or lesser extent, depending on how they treat it. Guest guest
Hypertension is a symptom, not a disease. Vaidya may tell you the root cause after a checkup. While more than 50% of drug sales are contributed by anti- hypertensive modern drugs, the root cuase is stress experienced by all of us. If you search archives using keywords " blood pressure " or " hypertension " you will come across a number of postings and experiences of patients. There is a lot to learn from these. Antihypertensive drugs bring in additional problems, which fetch remaining drug revenue. But in recent years, a new revolution has started in India, and it is being studied with interest by western medicos. This is where yoga and ayurveda are being integrated. View of the body as a chemical plant controlled by brain has given rise to modern anti- hypertensives. But hypertension as an indicator of mental stress and a result of prajnaparadha, a view taken by spiritual ayurveda. That has given rise to several breathing techniques, meditation techniqes propogated by yoga gurus of eminence, e.g. Baba Ramdev, B.K.S Ayengar, Sri Sri Ravishankar. And it is now a research area by allopaths at AIIMS, New Delhi(please see archives). New yoga teachers are teaching the breathing techniques in every corner of the world. The scientific research on effect of prayers is another new area of research by service minded medicos. e.g. Despite being overweight, negligence in regular medication, the people who prayed had lower b.p. They had lower levels of cortisol, a biological marker of stress: " Spirituality may help blood pressure " http://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/20070201/spirituality-may-help-\ blood-pressure " Praying for lower blood pressure? " http://sciencedaily.healthology.com/main/article.aspx? content_id=3794 & focus_handle=heart-health & par=hgy " Positive Influence Of Religion And Spirituality On Blood Pressure " http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/44202.php Dear mmjoshi, you may find the views in archives that you may have to take your beta-blocker drugs/ACE Inhibitor drugs/Calcium Channel blocker drugs for life time, by even Ayurvedic Doctors. But do your own research, learn some yoga/pranayama/meditation techniques and then post your experiences for the benifit of others. This should not be construed to mean that you should not meet a vaidya. True cause could be some thing in addition to stress too. But even other cause will be addressed to some extent by drugless approach. Guest guest
Respected " Jane MacRoss " Hari Om ! You quoted, " Hypertension is something the allopaths love to give you a pill for, I don't believe that Ayurveda works like that ..... " I don't agree with you, please don't mind! Though I am not an expert, I am sure, " MUKTAVATI " is an ayurvedic medicine on high blood pressure........ perfectly sure to cure ! Secondly, intake of Plenty of fluids/water and restricted intake of salt are necessary to get control over the BP. Go on an apple diet for a few days. It has a diuretic effect and thus brings down the B.P. Consumption of natural diuretics like coconut water, butter milk and coriander (dhania) juice made from green coriander leaves is very beneficial. Guest guest
Dear Swami As a monk have you not seen the effect documented many times on how meditation reduces the high blood pressure? And seen how the breath controls many bodily functions? These maladies that over take us are not something that has fallen into us from the sky - well not often manifesting as hypertension anyway - they are the results of many years tension and many years poor diet and dehydration - can you not see this? By giving a pill to relief symptoms you do not encourage the victim to change anything in the lifestyle that has led to this point - do you? Which means you are trying to forcefully reduce the BP while on the other hand maintaining the lifestyle that produced it! Why would you not agree that taking charge of one's Life and ones body and allowing healing changes to occur beneficially and naturally through behavioural changes, is the simplest Path? Your advise points to the root cause of the problem, but still misses some important points. Swamiji, with all due respect to all acharyas who formulated various medicines, this list has posts where well known and " SURE " medicines did not work for the people. e.g. please see Muktavati score: ayurveda/message/10078 ayurveda/message/10088 also ayurveda/message/4546 The reasons for such failures are not far to seek. Most netizens are looking for some magic cure in terms of " PILL " , without altering their food style, lifestyle and stress raisers. This author had a patient who even visited Kankhal, Haridwar and obtained medicines from Divya Yoga Pharmacy, which included Muktavati, some more bhasmas. But he had to work in shifts, he could not stop his smoking. He is now an addict of anti-hypertensives, even when they are not working. Another patient had already tried Sarpagandha Ghanvati for 6 months without any change in blood pressure nad come in search of some magic cure. Same issues could be found in all such cases why medicines become ineffective. Maya misleads the man to seek material pleasures, and this gives never ending temptation to accumulate wealth, which is accumulated after taking out every spiritual juice out of the physical body. If body does not respond, the whip of intoxicants is available. When stress is a result of such practice, no medicine pill is likely to work, be it ayurvedic, homeopathic or unani. The medicine needed here is already hinted in previous post. Dr. Bhate
Guest guest
High blood pressure results from derangement of vata dosha and vyana vayu. Thus the treatment is always focused to correct the balance of vata dosha. Naturally there is no single medicine rather we have to combine ayurvedic resources of herbs with regimen (dietary changes with support of Yoga). Rasona or garlic is most important substance helpful in alleviating vata dosha controlling blood pressure. A paste made of about 1 gm of garlic should be mixed with a glass of buttermilk. Drink this buttermilk twice a day. It will bring your blood pressure down. Garlic lowers cholesterol and triglyceride that have impact on heart disease. Soak 1 tsp fenugreek seed in water for a night and munch them early in the morning on empty stomach. It will reduce your cholesterol and excess fats. Terminalia arjuna, (Arjun), R. serpentina (Sarpagandha), Withania somnifera and Jaharmohara are effective ayurvedic ingredients and have been used in Ayurveda for cardiac ailments since ancient times. Triphala Guggul is yet another Ayurvedic preparation found useful in reducing cholesterol levels. OMNICOR is natural blend of Triphala, Garcinia, Guggul and Vidanga. It reduces weight, Triglycerides, LDL Cholesterol and protects your heart against complications of high blood pressure. This preparation is also available in the US and Canada. Dose 1-2 Capsule twice daily before meal with warm water. Ayurvedic Help for Morning Surge of high blood pressure High blood pressure is important risk factor for variety of cardiovascular diseases. Most studies of diurnal variation have shown an increase in acute myocardial infarction, sudden cardiac death and stroke in the morning hours. It is now apparent that the morning blood pressure surge (MBPS) is an independent risk factor that may contribute sudden heart attack. The morning high blood pressure is present in normotensives and exaggerated in hypertensive subjects, especially the elderly with systemic high blood pressure. The exaggerated morning surge has been reported to increase left ventricular mass and cadcardiac arrhyhmias. In addition, the mbps increases sheer stress and pressure in the vascular wall leading to increased oxidative stress, further vascular damage and atherosclerotic plaque rupture. The morning surge of blood pressure may be successfully treated using ayurvedic ingredients at bedtime. The important ingredients are Withania somnifera (Ashwagandha), Centella asiatica (Brahmi) and Acorus calamus (Vaca). These ingredients balances the increased sympathetic nervous system which is main cause of morning blood pressure surge. Prevention of Blood Pressure: Diet & Yogic support is of paramount importance. The dietary changes comprises (i) reduction of salt intake to an average of not more than 5 g per day (ii) moderate fat intake (iii) the avoidance of a high alcohol intake, and (iv) restriction of energy intake appropriate to body needs. Reduction of stress and smoking, modification of personal life-style, yogic relaxation & meditation could be profitable. Simple deep breathing, inhalation and exhalation without retension may be performed. This practice may be done by sitting in Sukhasana at home or in Chair at office. Regular practice of Shavasana is very effective yogic support for the prevention of high blood pressure and its complications. Guest guest
Dr.Shirish Bhate Hari Om ! Rightly quoted, " Maya misleads the man to seek material pleasures, and this gives never ending temptation to accumulate wealth, which is accumulated after taking out every spiritual juice out of the physical body. " I agree with you........ it's a fact. But a person wanted to know whether an ayurvedic medicine is available on high blood pressure ? The question was limited to the ayurvedic medicine only......... and thus the answer ! I agree with 'Jane', too...... there are many solutions available and these show results depending upon many parameters/conditions i.e. altering their food style, lifestyle and stress raisers etc. Vedic system recommends a few Asanas & Pranayams, a few home-remedies are also available....... and other 'pathies are also there. But, according to the question raised by 'mm', I had to confine myself to an ayurvedic medicine only. Lastly, It's true, I am not an expert....... I, always, think myself a student of 'ayurvedic system' 'cause it's depth cann't be measured by a student like me. Yes, being a Sannyasi/Monk, I want to convey/share my feelings and knowledge on ayurveda, if any, to all for their benefits, if possible. Thanks to all the experts/vaidyas for their comments on my post...... Guest guest
High blood pressure is basically a symptom of some disorder of heart, kidney or brain, unless it is essential hypertension. It is also considered a life-style problem where stress, highly salted-spicy-oily foods, irregular/lack of sleep and such factors rule the roost. Just medicines do not help in controlling this problem. However, Arjun in heart problems, Punarnava and Gokshur in kidney problems and Jatamansi and other medhya herbs in brain problems are indicated. Sarpagandha is a medicine that is symptomatically used in many anti-hypertensive herbal preparations. But, the regime that works best is Panchkarma. All these medicines can be used safely under the proper guidance of Ayurvedic doctor. Even Yogic postures (asanas) like Shavasana (corpse pose) has proven medical values in blood-pressure patients. Even Pranayam is very useful. But these alternates need practice, patience and perseverence for obtaining results. Lastly, a correction in life-style according to one's constitution (Prakurti) is very useful for long-term benefits.
