Guest guest
Let me be perfectly clear on this issue: the net sedative effect of Ashwagandha, even though this feature is stated in authentic Ayurvedic texts and modern references, is very weak when compared to many other herbs. It is not a herb I use for sedation, but have noted that when taken regularly it can promote a more relaxed countenance and as such can facilitate a better sleep. Ashwagandha/Withania has very clear indications as per Ayurveda, and when these indications are not observed there is a much greater likelihood of a negative reaction. While these traditional contraindications must be respected, there also remains the possibility that some contraindication or facet of the herb may be discovered at a later date, especially as Ayurveda expands all across the world and is used by people of differing ethnicity, diet, climate, etc. This doesn't take away traditional knowledge, but only adds to its sophistication and applicability. So when I state that Ashwagandha has a GABAnergic potential that could give rise to unanticipated reactions this information is meant to be additive, not subtractive.
