By making advanced search using the key word " menopause " author

obtained many messages in the archives.

Off the hat, if you are in India, author can mention one panchgavyam

medicine generic name " Nari Sanjivani " . It takes care of irritability,

depression, reduced hormones, mood swings, hypetestnsion if it is mild. For

joint pains also it

provides some help, as blood circulation improves. But it would be

beneficial to visit a nearest vaidya and check which are the major

problems needing maximum focus.

The situation after hysterectomy is slightly different than when menopasue comes

on its own and cycles stop, Hysterectomy is a trauma to the body and hormones

receive a jolt. Dr Hammer has done a lot of work in investigating the

relationships between such trauma and serious illnesses later. In author's

experience 99% of women had to face hypertension. The associated side effects

of antihypertensives gave rise to a row of problems.

Menopause is a natural

hormone (estrogen) deficient state that occurs at the age of 45-55 years. After

the age of 40 years, ovaries reduce their production of sex hormones. As a

result, the menses as well as other body functions are disturbed. Finally the

menses cease permanently. This ultimate pause is described as menopause. It is

needless to say that this phase also marks the end of fertility in a woman.

Irregular

periods, hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness and itching, and mood

swings-- all these are typical symptoms of menopause. Osteoporosis (thinning

and weakening of bones), heart disease, and Alzheimer's disease (progressive

loss of memory and concentration) are the long-term hazards of menopause. Some

of the common symptoms are - Weakness due to anemia, Feeling of intense heat in

your body on some occasions, Profuse sweating at night, Excessive falling of

hair,  Burning and increased frequency of

urination, vaginal dryness and itching, Joint pain, Edema, Irritable nature and

Sleeplessness.

To

cope with the menopausal problem usually Hormone Replacement Therapies

suggested. In this cyclical treatment with Estrogen and Progesterone is given.

Besides being expensive, H.R.T. is apprehended by many women because of the

associated risk of developing breast and uterine cancers. H.R.T. is also

contraindicated in women with hypertension, myocardial infarction, recent blood

clots, migraine headaches, liver disease and gall bladder disease.

Ayurveda

advocates a holistic treatment program by utilizing various herbs and minerals

and offers a reliable option to the conventional treatment. Ayurvedic

preparation viz; Ashokaristha is very effect to deal with menopausal problems.

Ayurvedic medication should always be combined with Yoga and Meditation for

calming effect on mind and to cope with abnormal symptoms of the menopause. It

is important to avoid smoking and drinking alcohol.

Omni Life

Active ingredients: Withania somnifera,

Bacopa monineri, Embelica officinalis and Tinospora cordifolia

Effect:

It is a rejuvenating supplement which has shown to be very effective in

treating peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes,

depression, joint pain, and menopausal insomnia. The standard adult doze is 1
