Guest guest
> Could you please give me the telugu name for Khapariyu or any other > name by which it is popular? Technical name is Calamine prepreta. Calamine is a mineral ore of Zinc (Zinc oxide, Zinc carbonate), also containing a little bit of Ferrous oxide. It is like the talcum powder. Author is not aware of its name in Telgu. To enable you search it in local markets, some more info is provided here. Calamine is widely used in Prickley Heat powders and as an anti- itching agent. Author has seen the foundation cream made from it being sold under the brand name " Lacto Calamine " from childhood. It is used to treat mild itching conditions such as sunburn, eczema, rashes, chicken pox, poison ivy, chickenpox, insect bites and stings. It is also used as a mild antiseptic to prevent infections that can be caused by scratching the affected area, and an astringent to dry weeping or oozing blisters and acne abscesses. It is also used to reduce the burning sensation of foot ulcers experienced by diabetics. Since it contains zinc oxide, its use against sun burns has been recently discussed in archives. It is claimed to cure acne. It is widely prescribed by allopaths and most surprising thing is that, despite its use for more than 40 years, in 1992 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration asserted that there was no proof the main ingredients in calamine (zinc oxide and ferric oxide) had any real therapeutic effect on rashes and itching!! Calamine Prepreta (Khapariyu) can be bought from chemical powder suppliers. It is also sold in some ayurvedic medicine shops in Mumbai.
