Guest guest
I recently ran across a medicinal food recipe using 1/4 tsp of sandalwood powder per serving. Can anyone advise me on the safety of ingesting white sandalwood powder? Thanks, Trish
Guest guest
White sandalwood is safe for ingestion and one may use upto one teaspoon thrice in a day, that is three teaspoons throughout a day. No adverse effects have been observed. Dr.D.B.Muzumdar M.D.Ayurveda-Medicine < dahpc > ________________ Can anyone advise me on the safety of ingesting white sandalwood powder? Hi Trish This author uses sandalwood powder in some herbal formulations. What matters is: 1. The sandal powder that you obtain, how pure it is? 2. What other herbs are mixed/processed with it? What are their proportions. 3. Whether the mixture is ingested straight or after some boiling/cooking etc 4. At what time of the daily routine, empty stomach or after meals, with water or simply swallowed? How many times a day? In ayurveda, often, the herbs are mixed to reduce/balance undesirable properties of one herb with other. This way, a toxic herb becomes useful medicine. Secondly, body is sometimes made to accept some herb while it will vomit out the medicine without that herb added. And lastly, in many anti-parasitic formulations, some ingredient serves as " bait " for parasites. Safety of the medicine also demands that vaidya consider the metabolic type of the person. What is beneficial for one, could be causing a disease for another in long term.
Guest guest
Dear Dr Bhate, This is the example of how sandalwood is being used. The recipe is for Pitta conditions, particularly Anger and Hostility. 1 cup grape juice 1/4 tsp cumin seed 1/4 tsp fennel seeds 1/4 tsp sandalwood powder blend makes one serving I tried it and it is delicous and it works. I have a good source for sandalwood powder. I assume this recipe refers to white sandalwood. Thank you for your replies. Trish _________________________ > 1. I assume this recipe > refers to white sandalwood. It is assumed that grape juice is the fresh one and not processed and packed. The mixture is harmonious and pitta pacifier. All the ingredients including grapes are discussed as pitta pacifiers in archives. You may even add 1/4 tsp coriander seeds and check that deliciousness is not disturbed. A simple alternative (termed heem) to above receipe is at: http://health.ayurveda/message/7720 Sandalwood powder acts externally too, when applied as paste! When migraine or simple headache exists, it sucks out toxins in the blood. It has affinity for toxins, how can it be unsafe? http://health.ayurveda/message/10018 Dr Bhate
