Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone can tell me about becoming an Ayurvedic doctor. Do you have to go to India? Or are there schools here in the USA? Thanks Tiffany
Guest guest
Dear Tiffany, There is an increasing awareness about Ayurveda the world over and a growing desire to learn more about this ancient system of medicine. Learning, experience and practice of Ayurveda is a life time decision. Because Ayurveda follows a method of treatment that takes into consideration the person’s mind, body and soul. There many Ayurveda Institutes and learning centers that teaches the principles, diagnosis and development of ayurvedic medicine. Not just in India, but the Ayurveda Institutes have become popular all over the world. Some of these include California's Clinical College of Ayurvedic Therapies, American Institute of Vedic Studies, International Institute of Ayurveda, and others. So if you have an interest in the science of ayurveda and want to learn about the benefits of this system of medicine, then you can begin your journey of knowledge by enrolling yourself for any of the courses offered by various Ayurveda Institutes. To join Ayurvedic colleges in India is little tedious process. Nevertheless there are suitable short courses available in Jamnagar Ayurvedic University and Banaras Hindu University. You can contact online. An important event is due in Chicago in October this year. You can join NAMA event to find suitable place and person that will help you to choose the good Ayurvedic institute near your area in the US. Guest guest
There is a program in Arizona where you can become a practioner. And two in California also. In addition, there is a college in Florida called Vedic University (I think), it's in Coral Springs, Florida. You can get a doctore degree in Ayuveda, but to get a MD in Ayuvedic you have to go to India. There are a number of great medical schools there. Guest guest
Florida Vedic College in Coral Springs, FL now also offers an MD program in Ayurveda. In fact, they provide degree certificates in collaboration with a University in India that makes the Bachelor's and Master's degree obtained from FVC equivalent to the India B.A.M.S. and M.D. respectively. bflosan <bflosan wrote: There is a program in Arizona where you can become a practioner. Guest guest
I didn't realize that. That is awesome. I found out about them when I lived in the South Florida area and I was working on my BS in Alt. Medicine. I do know that they have a great program. Guest guest
the only good ayurvedic centers are in india to be honest. all those institutes you mentioned in the usa are bogus and are limited by the fda. they can't procure the proper medicines (fda restrictions) and they can only teach theory at best. the best practical methods are in india. please talk to dr muzumdar. as he and i are very much on the same page here. i am sure dr bhate will agree as well. if anyone disagrees well then all my travels and talks to practicioners here in the usa has been a complete waste of time and futile. namaskar __________ Raja Gursahani (: 559.474.8576 ,: rajagursahani

Guest guest
Dear Raja, Good that you have posted a clear-cut and frank opinion to straighten out this issue of Ayurveda teaching institutes abroad. People will rely more on your opinion as you are a citizen of USA. Kudos for your timely intervention. Guest guest
The National Ayuvedic Medical Association is just forming with the likes of Dr Lad and others. Last October was the 5th annual conference in Ayurveda. The standards for practitioners has started with a basic 500 hrs, but from what I hear will be going up very soon..There were american and Indian practitioners and Doctors present. As acupuncture took some time to establish, respect for Ayurveda as a medical modality will soon be more recognized as we ban together and speak the truth, sharing knowledge without fear. Guest guest
I've heard about the 500 hours. You can join the NAMA as practioner if you have those 500hours. I am thinking about going to the conference in Chicago in the fall. Is anyone else thinking about going? __________________ The standards for practitioners has started with a basic 500 hrs, but from what I hear will be going up very soon..There were american and Indian practitioners and Doctors present.
