Though not aware of any fully natural hair dye, in our family we have

a first hand experience of reversal of premature greying of hair.

One of my older brothers was affected by premature greying in his

teenage (he is now 53). My grandfather, an ayurvedic physician with

his own manufacturing pharmacy, formulated a special preparation of

extra medicated hair oil for him. With regular application over a

period of three months, the premature greying was fully reversed. The

next grey hair appeared on my brother's head only in his mid forties.

I was wondering if you know about a natural/ayurvedic hair dye

that is as effective as the chemical ones that are sold commercially.

Although it might be shot in the dark, on my next visit to India

(July-Aug 2008) will make enquiries with the members in the family,

who are continuing the profession. As it was a specific formulation,

it might involve searching through manuscripts left behind by

grandfather (b. circa 1901 ~ d. 1979).

Although if your family are still producing the hair oil they would need the

recipe to make it up wouldn't they?

Best,

Jane

No Jane, it was not a regular generic formulation. Was a derivative

special formulation, made in small volume. It was not produced as

part of the 'over the counter' oils dispensed at the Vaidyashala. The

current generation of physicians in the family are second-cousins and

younger nephews, who may not be aware of this story I mentioned.

About 7 years ago, my daughter (now 13) developed just one strand of

grey hair; and at the time this old incident came to my mind. But the

grey hair disappeared in course of time, so I did not pursue the

thought.

Now that there is interest, I will look into it.

Premature graying is an indicator of hormone levels as well as

chemical poisoning of the blood. This also includes heavy metals.

That is the reason the herbs for premature graying also act on liver

mainly.

The prescription is good. Kumari Aasava and aloe gel both originate

from Aloe vera, a sure shot fertility herb, as well as lever

cleansing herb. Bhringaraja is also liver herb.

However, Vaidya must find root cause. In many cases in cities, the

root cause appears to be the hypertension arising from inadequate

blood supply to brain. In such cases, author found better results

were obtained by doing certain yogasanas, meditation and breathing

techniques, head massage, herbs which calmed down thoughts and

promoted good sleep. Diet modification to obtain better balance in

the pulse was seen to affect the overall health as well as hair.

Color of the hair and their abundance is driven by earth+water

elements.

Hypertension and decreased energy in crown chakra can be diagnosed

just by looking at hair density near crown of the head.

Vaidyas need to start looking through the body, its cells and its

parts rather than just memorising remedies against ailments.

hello, i have also searched on this topic and i have found out

this

Graying of hair is generally considered as a sign of old age. At

times, graying starts even at young age. This is considered as

morbidity. In Ayurveda this is called palitya. According to Ayurveda

excessive passion, anger and psychic strain results in graying of

hair. Persons suffering from chronic cold and sinusitis and those

who use warm water for washing there hair are more likely to be

victims of this condition.

Causes:

Dietic errors

Worries and tension

Lack of certain vitamins iron, copper, iodine, etc

Genetic factors

Unhygienic habits like unclean scalp, washing the hair with hot

water, drying it with an electric dryer, and use of hair dyes.

Heredity

Gray Hair as a Sign of Illness:

Due to graying of the hair at a particularly young age. Several

illnesses may be heralded, including:

Vitamin B12 deficiency

Neurofibromatosis

Thyroid disease

Vitiligo

Alopecia areata

In addition, there is research linking premature graying of hair to

other health conditions such as heart disease and low bone mass

called osteopenia, Cigarette smoking also has been linked to

premature graying.

Dos and don'ts:

Avoid contaminated food.

Avoid foods such as white flour, refined sugar and all products made

from them.

Avoid soft drinks, pastries, jams and jellies.

Avoid greasy and spicy food.

Avoid salty food.

Don't use chemical based shampoos, gels and colors.

Regularly wash your hairs.

Give a gentle massage to your scalp once a week.

Oil your hairs twice a week.

Give stream bath to your hairs once in every 15 days.

Avoid extreme cold and hot environmental exposure to your hairs.

Keep your separate comb and do not use comb of other people.

Take at least eight hours continues sleep.

Drink lots water.

Protect your hairs from direct exposure to sunlight.

Ayurvedic treatment:

Bhringraja and amalaki are popularly used for the treatment of this

condition. Medicated oil prepared by boiling these two drugs,

viz ,Mahabhringraj taila is used extremely for massaging the head,

The powder of these two drugs is also used internally in a dose of

one teaspoonful three times daily with milk. The oil prepared from

the seeds of the Neem tree is used for inhalation twice a day for

about a month. Along with this, the patient should be advised to

take only milk as his diet.

Home Remedies:

The use of Indian gooseberry is the foremost among the home

remedies. The fruit, cut into pieces, should be dried, preferably in

shade. These pieces should be boiled in coconut oil till the solid

matter becomes like charred dust. This darkish oil is very useful

against premature graying. The water in which dried amla pieces have

been soaked overnight is also nourishing for the hair. This water

should be used for the last rinse while washing the hair. Massaging

the scalp every night with a teaspoonful of amla juice, mixed with a

teaspoon of almond oil and a few drops of lime juice, also proves

beneficial in the prevention and treatment of premature graying of

hair.

Amaranth is another effective home remedy for hair disorders.

Application of the fresh juice of the leaves of this vegetable helps

the hair to retain its black color and prevents it from premature

graying. It also helps the growth of the hair and keeps it soft.

Liberal intake of curry leaves is considered beneficial in

preventing premature graying of hair. These leaves have the property

of providing vitality and strength to hair roots. New hair roots

that grow are healthier and contain a normal pigment. The leaves can

be used in the form of chutney, or may be squeezed in buttermilk.

When the leaves are boiled in coconut oil, the oil forms an

excellent hair tonic to stimulate hair growth and bring back hair

pigmentation.

The butter made from cow's milk has the property of preventing

premature graying of hair. A small roll may be taken internally and

a little quantity may be massaged into the hair roots twice a week.

Apply a paste made from 2-Tsp. henna powder, 1-tsp. curd, 1-tsp.

fenugreek seed powder, 1 tbsp. coffee, 2-tbsp. mint juice and 2-

tbsp. basil juice. Apply this paste to the hair for two hours. For a

darker color, leave this paste in for 3 to 4 hours. Wash hair with

any natural shampoo.

Grate some fresh ginger. Mix with honey and place it in a jar. Eat 1-

teaspoon everyday.

thanks to every one
