Be assured that they will answer your letter directly and honestly. Dr. Varier and his staff are world famous for the great service they do by keeping the traditional practice of Ayurveda alive in a modern context. Arya Vaidya Sala is a charitable trust giving honest service. These are highly respected people, everyone from common people to Prime Ministers go there and everyone is treated equally. One problem is that there can be long waits since they have a waiting list, I am not sure how it is at this time of year at the end of the heat season and the rains coming soon, in the cold season one often must book many months in advance. The weak point at Ayur Vaidya Sala, as with many Ayurvedic institutions, is that diet is not properly taken care of (at least at the times I was there), many rich people bring their own cooks. My suggestion if you go there, or any where else, is for the patient to avoid all excess in tastes in food, especially sour, sweet(nothing with white sugar), and pungent. Healing diet should be mild in taste. All tastes, but nothing should dominate, avoid Sambar, Rasam (pepper water), and curries with heavy chili taste, do not take the Payasams (sweet dishes)that come at the end of Kerala meals since they are often made with white sugar, and avoid sour yogurt (taste before eating, if it is too sour, avoid; diluted buttermilk is better). Plain simple food is very helpful in the treatment process. Contact them with your doubts and they will answer you. Liz
