Guest guest
Are there any directions given in the ayurvedic texts about the sleeping position? I am here referring to the direction your head faces while sleeping. According to the vedic Vaastu science, the head placement (direction the top of your head points when lying down) while sleeping has a strong effect on physical and mental well-being. However, I have read different advice. Some say East and South are best and North and West are harmful, while others say North is the best. I have my own repeated and validated experiences with this, but also some doubts.
Guest guest
Because of the North South iron polarity the best positions I have heard is North South - as the blood flows more easily and smoothly with the head being in the North - and the Guru Gita has the best positions for meditation specified, facing East being the most auspicious - different directions and different seats for different results. The best way from the experience is to seek the guidance of breath. In meditation breath becomes subtle, rate goes down and so the rate of pulse. Hence author used this technique to find the best sleeping direction whenever he visited new place. Is not ayurveda a science of living in harmony with your surroundings. If theer is harmony, one will get relaxation as if in mothers lap. A person with a calm and quiet mind will make others also peaceful, if his field is stronger compared to others. On the other hand, person under anxiety/panic attack shows rapid breathing, shake, trembling and his vibrations will be pickd up by others. Secondly, while evaluating Vastu, author determined the drop in pulse/breathing rate for each of the flats he was suposed to compare. He asked same trial for the family members to repeat. Based on collective score, the beneficial vastu was selected. The house which is beneficial health-wise will also be beneficial in every other way, since health is wealth. Guest guest
dr lad always recommended having your head face either south or west to get a deeper and more restful sleep. facing north he said would bring in too much air/either element. i believe also, but dont remember clearly, that facing east as well was too powerful energetically for good rest. Guest guest
The yogic method is to sleep east-west. The yogic way to let the spirit leave the body is to face north south. GB
Guest guest
I understood from Mike Maestro, a Vastu specialist here in Seattle, that for sleeping, head position is best at the south end with feet facing north. Thanks, Lawren
Guest guest
Thanks for the input on this. It would appear that there is a general view on the benefit of south, west and south and to avoid north. I found some further details given in the book Vastu: The Origin of Feng Shui by Marcus Schmiecke of the Veda Academy. General guidelines: * WEST - enhances wealth and fame * SOUTH - invokes material happiness * EAST - nurtures spiritual knowledge * SOUTHEAST - spiritual knowledge and material happiness * SOUTHWEST - material happiness, wealth and fame * NORTHEAST - spiritual knowledge and material happiness * SOUTHWEST - spiritual knwledge, disease, and unrest * NORTHWEST - wealth, fame, disease and unrest * NORTH - disease and unrest It would appear that the vastu qualities of the living space can either promote or diminish these qualities as well as the interaction of the individual horoscope of the person.
