Guest guest
Hi, I become extremely angry and irritable during my peiod time. I usually end up getting upset stomach (which causes constant headache and acidity) during the last days of my period. Is there any ayurveda diet, home remedy or herbs that I can take to get rid of these problems. What can I take to control my anger during this time. I become an awful person during this time. Thanks
Guest guest
PLease click on the following link ayurvedaarticles/Dr.%\ 20BhateFiles/ and then select file Menopause_Treat.doc either for download or reading. Check the secion " pitta unbalance " . you will find most of the symptoms there. Of course this does not mean you are marching towards menopause. During the menstrual cycle, the hormones are at their lowest level, and this often causes the symptoms you described. Now ayurveda does not look for which hormone is less or more? Ayurveda knows which herbs to use according to dosha balance. Here dosha means a set of bio-chemical forces acting through neurotransmitters to obtain certain actions of the organs. Now note the food, lifestyle and herbal recommendations in the above file. For the convenience, both indian and western herbs are dealt with. The recommendations should be followed for at least three consecutive cycle time. To control the anger not only during period time but for all the life, meditation is a life-time free medicine. __________ become extremely angry and irritable during my peiod time. Guest guest
Thanks. I read the document. The problem is - I think I have all 3 kinds of imbalances ( Vata, Pitta and Kapha). For Vata - loss of skin tone (ALOT! - you can just look at my face and see something is wrong) , feeling cold, constipation. For Pitta - Prone to Hot Temper, anger, irritability, feeling hot (yes..I feel hot and cold (sometimes hot and sometimes cold)..and I occassionaly get a pimple or two. For Kapha - Weight Gain , sluggishness, lethargy, fluid retention, lazy, depressed (depression occurs if I do not get angry..I mean one month I am depressed another month I am irritable and angry), slow digestion. You see, I am not sure which impbalance I have. Thanks
Guest guest
Menstruation is in large part an act guided by the liver and hence pitta, and so where anger predominates general anti-pitta therapies can be used. Further indication to support the liver is found in your symptoms of headache and acidity. A pitta-reducing diet (see: http://www.toddcaldecott.com/pitta.html) may be generally helpful. I typically would emphasize the use of bitter, pitta-reducing herbs such as barberry, buplerum, dandelion root and motherwort in conjunction with sweet-tasting restorative herbs such as shatavari, (prepared) rehmannia, peony and licorice. From a physiological perspective, this sounds like PMS subtype A, which relates to a relative estrogen excess and progesterone deficiency. Thus the herbs mentioned above, which remove excess estrogen (the liver herbs) plus those that support progesterone (e.g. shatavari, peony and also vitex) are indicated. In addition to this, vitamin B6 (taken in a B complex) and magnesium can be helpful to balance hormonal levels and specifically to boost dopamine to alleviate depression. Increasing your fiber intake such as taking fresh ground flax seed can be helpful to ensure proper bowel elimination if this is an issue, which helps bind up and remove excess estrogens that otherwise might be reabsorbed from the gut back into circulation. And lastly, an omega 3 essential fatty acid supplement taken in sufficient doses (i.e. 1200 mg EPA/DHA) may help as well. So you see ayurveda is not just online counselling! Most online tests for doshas may show similar confusion. In fact, in reality everyone has some vitiation of each dosha, the vaidyas treat according to Major and minor doshas. The combination of herbs keeps changing as patient shows the changes. That is why, treatment is dynamic and one should consult a nearby Vaidya. Vaidya, apart from examining pulse, skin, eyes, tongue, will ask you several questions related to your diet, elimination, lifestyle, character of menses (frequency, length of flow, amount of flow, the viscosity, clots, color, attendant pain, other symptoms, etc, etc...) and then decide best combination of herbs for calculated length of time, after which some change may be needed. It is unfortunate that ayurvedic protocol cant be fitted in " do it yourself " pocket book. A " one size fits all " recommendation is that meditation, pranayama is known to balance out all doshas, perhaps that was the reason, ancient custom permitted women to be in seclusion, resting during the menstrual period, with a diet which balances pitta and vata and promotes kapha. But once again, specific cases were to be treated separately.
Guest guest
Thanks so much!! I do beleive that my liver does get wacky during that time. Also, I see a little line across my nose bridge. (an indication of liver problem). I will be getting the herbs that you stated. Thanks again!! _ Menstruation is in large part an act guided by the liver and hence pitta, and so where anger predominates general anti-pitta therapies can be used.
