Guest guest
Hare Krishna and Hello to Everyone, Recently in the news (America) it has been stated by medical " experts " that it's untrue cold milk will product mucous. Now I myself do not believe these so called experts for one minute. In part because my own experience with self, children, husband, drinking milk when coming down with a cold etc, then the mucous would increase right before my eyes. And in part cuz I am a strong believer in Ayurveda which teaches cold milk should not be taken when ill (or at all really) as it will increase mucous (probably other problems as well). So my questions is: Does anyone out there who knows Ayurveda and allopathic medicine, can you provide me with some medical evidence that they are wrong about cold milk 'not' producing mucous? Even when well, one should only drink hot milk, as it goes to the brain better; whereas cold milk goes to the stomach. This is what Srila Prabhupada taught us. So now there has been this big study on natal news claiming cold milk causing mucous is a myth. Yes, they actually called it a myth. I would love to see something scientific that disproves this, as it's not a myth. Like I touched on above, I saw it firsthand. Guest guest
modern science changes it story every few months and many studies are done in ways that are not ethical. The milk available in the American market can not be considered milk according to ayurvedic standards as it is pasteurized and comes from cows who are medicated and live in barns and never eat fresh Grass or even see the sun. We need not look to science when we have Vedic science. Stay firm in your beliefs and do not waver due to some scientific study. Hot milk makes proteins in the milk more easily digested. Most of the people who claim to be lactose intolerant are actually cold milk intolerant. cold milk kills digestive fire and should certainly not be consumed when sick. My three year old daughter started drinking much cold milk when my mother was here - she did not realize that the milk needed to be heated and she became horribly constipated. It took two weeks and two enemas to fix her up. Follow God's law and all will be well! Guest guest
Thank you for this! Yes, it does indeed slow digestion. My daughter is more pitta dosha so for her it may not have been so bad - yet even for her it wasn't so great. And if she came down with a cold or flu, pitta dosha or no pitta dosha - any cold milk would knock her for a loop! Not only would it increase her mucous, but if she had a fever, it would often exacerbate it. Anyway, these have been my experiences, so I'm sticking to what works. Guest guest
I would just like to add that it is not just the temperature of the milk that can cause mucus, but also the fact that milk in many countries is obtained from tortured cows who are given medicines and harmones to produce more milk. After obtaining milk from such cows, it is homogenized and pasteurized -- both are bad and cause mucus.
