Guest guest
Respected Vaidyas: My grand daughter, baby Pragna (2 1/2 months old) is fed infant formula. She has good appetite and putting on weight at a normal pace. Her stools are regular. She suffers from gas and acid reflux. Her doctor in USA is prescribing Axid (Ranitidine) drops. That helps to an extent, but she still has lot of discomfort. I am wondering if there are any ayurvedic home remedies that her parents can use to alleviate her problem instead of using the medicine (we don't know its long term effects). Please help. Guest guest
Frankly Ranitidine, which is used here routinely on anyone having major surgery, anyone in ICU and anyone in a Nursing Home - as far as I can see - all of which means most people are on it for life - seems to be the beginning of problems of a digestive nature and difficult to eliminate after long term use. If a 10 week old child is having these problems then it sounds as if either is it not a suitable formula for the child or she needs more water in addition to the formula, or a weaker dilution of the formula, or some change in the way it is given. Melissa, or lemon balm is used for children in Steiner schools in my experience, but 10 weeks is very young and would need to be given in fairly weak dilution. We always used gripe water in UK and Australia for this problem but not as a long term solution. Has the child's mother tried any other less reactive formulas or any other means of reducing this response in the baby? Guest guest
This is very common with formula fed babies. Make sure her parents help her burp while eating. This will help to a great deal to releive vomiting after eating. Rub her tummy with oil - sesame i ok and apply ing to the nabhi you can also fed her fennel seeds tea. Boil water with fennel seeds and then let it cool to room temperature and feed her this after meals or whenever she has gas. She may only drink a small spoon but that is enough. It will help a lot. ________________ My grand daughter, baby Pragna (2 1/2 months old) is fed infant formula. She has good appetite and putting on weight at a normal pace. Her stools are regular. [Moderator adds: along with feennel seeds, see if you can add about 4-5 Vidanga seeds also; despite good hunger and weight gain, formula nourishes parasites too!]
