My friend went to Pankaj Naram several years ago and she had a

horrible experience. She did panchakarma and it was so excessive that

she was sick when she left and it took over six months for her to

recover. She still has problems that she attributes to that period.

She also went home with over 15 medicines, she said that those

medicines also made her sick. She talked to an Ayurveda doctor who

evaluated those medicines and told her that a large percentage of them

had pipali in them and this was causing her to overheat, he also said

that since she was taking big handfuls of them several times a day

this was too dry and too bitter and had horribly disturbed her

digestion which was the source of many of her problems. After stopping

those medicines she felt better within a week. Remember Naram makes

money off of selling medicines and gives as many of them as possible

to every patient. My friends doctor also said that this way of

prescrbing medicines was definitely not Ayurveda.

Which is not surprising, as was dissused here at length several years

ago, Pankaj Naram is not a physician, he has never studied medicine of

any kind, he only is allowed to practice medicine because he fell

under the grandfather clause when the BAMS system was instituted in

the early 80s in India. There are many stories of him being confronted

on basic questions in Ayurveda and he can not answer them. He has

invented his own system which has no relationship to true Ayurveda

except he uses similar terms. I took one of his classes on pulse

diagnosis in California and it was instantly apparent that he knew

nothing about it, he talks about something he calls Vata/Pitta/Kapaha

but this is not the VPK we read about in the books on Ayurveda. Some

one asked him a question about basic physiology and he said he did not

know about physiology and that he would have to ask his wife, this

will be his answer to almost any question.

My impression is that he is nothing more than a very skilled self

promoter not a doctor. He told us that he studies motivational

speakers like Tony Robbins, I think this is why he has gotten rich

selling medicines not because of any medical knowledge. One thing I

did not like was he takes advantage of people who can not really

afford to take the many medicines he prescribes. He is a self promoter

and has gotten rich doing that. He constantly lies about many things

including his qualifications and his relationship to famous people. He

is a phony top to bottom. I have been told that he is despised

throughout Ayurveda circles in India. If you want to go to an

Ayurvedic doctor why not go to one that has actually studied Ayurveda

and who actually practices Ayurveda as it has been described in the

Ayurvedic texts, not just something made up to trick people?

I don't know why the posts about him were deleted, I did notice that

Dr. Bhate recently wrote about Naram as a respected Vaidya, I have

always heard the opposite and was surprised to read that Dr. Bhate

wrote that, how can Naram be a respected Vaidya when he isn't a Vaidya

at all. Even a beginner like me saw clearly that he knew very little

about Ayurveda, I knew more than he does, I didn't respect his medical

knowledge at all. I didn't learn anything from his class neither did

anyone else there. In fact in the class I took he spent at least 75%

of the time talking about how wonderful he is, actually I found him

borish.

Why not go to Dr. Bhate's clinic in Bombay? He has actually studied

Ayurveda, unlike Naram. There are hundreds of famous doctors and

clinics throughout India.

This is simply highly revealing. The couple are quite famous and always quote

a large number of very successful miraculous cure and immediate relief etc

in very complicated and chronic cases.Their success rates are in thousands

only. The couple these days are also seen on TV talking about home

prescription etc. They talk about their popularity in Italy, Germany, US,

England Sweden etc.Their reach is rather growing. If the above is even

partially true it is matter of grave concern and community has a duty to

society to warn the people about it and if possible weed it out.

I ordered a remedy from a woman here in Australia because I was having

difficulty obtaining this Ayurvedic remedy elsewhere and the Newsletter I

received with the remedy was full of glowing reports about the Narams and

their world wide successes. I have never heard of any of the Vaidyas on

this list praising this couple.

Best,

It is time some more knowledgeable about the couple, preferably Mumbai

based, may very kindly enlighten the group about the couple. This will be a

great service to all.Let us on our part try our best to encourage the best

and try to eliminate/weed out the undesirables .However, we should be

careful not to target the genuine and sincere ones purely on personal

reasons.I am sure some good samaritan will throw some light and lead us.

Yes it is true about the naram and their shady practice the reason

being that if true authentic ayurveda is unleashed it will change the

entire healthcare system as we know it therefore what happens is the

elite allow quacks like him to confuse the public by acting very

unethical this is basically a healthcare conspiracy because of the

fear of the changing of the guard

There was an old in depth thread of the Naram problem some years ago.

It has been deleted as all of the other posts from years past. Dr

Kumar knows a lot about this maybe he would repost some of his

comments. There are several people from back in those days who posted

on Naram and told the story of his amazing success with no

qualifications at all, perhaps some of them are still here and would

add to the discussion.

I just replied to a letter to someone in this group. I wrote him that

my analysis of the Naram problem is something like this. Naram is the

same as the many of thousands of people who own and set in Ayurvdic

chemist shops throughout India with no real training in Ayurveda and

certainly no certifications as Vaidyas, they are simply medicine

salesmen. The difference between those people and Naram is that he is

a master self promoter and has gotten rich selling medicines and they

have not. He sells the same products that they do but he goes on TV

promoting himself and builds big clinics, has his photo taken with

famous people, and goes in foreign countries selling medicines, he has

gotten rich doing this. But as far as qualifications to practice

medicine, his is no more than any chemist shop salesman, he never took

any BAMS exams therefore is not really a Vaidya. He is a medicine

salesman, a master salesman but not a Vaidya, and there is a very big

difference.

At first it would appear that the postings of the previous thread about

Naram from 2005 are no longer available in the group archives, as they

could not be found through the forum search function. I have double

checked and done multiple searches with no result. Searching manually

through the dates I found the postings to BE there, so there is a

TECHNICAL ERROR of some sorts with 's forum search function, which

I will report to . Fortunately, I kept a compiled copy of all those

postings in the full duration of this particular thread about Dr Pankaj

Naram, from 11th March - 20th April 2005. Since the moderator seems to

have restricted the Files area to themselves only, I am not able to

upload a text file with these. I am therefore posting them here below in

this posting in their chronological order for all with an interest to

read.

[moderator adds :- Ability to upload files is restricted to moderators as lot of

unwanted files were being uploaded when the option was open for all. Members can

send their files to moderators and they will be uploaded giving them due credit.

All members have the ability to download these files.

No messages since the beginning of the group have been deleted after they were

posted except for rare occasions. Unfortunately for some reason earlier messages

do not show up in search. A manual search however shows these messages.

Alstrup's collection have been added as a file. It can be accessed at

Dr Bhashyam,

Thank you for your input. What exactly are they claiming on TV, is it local

commercials on Mumbai TV? Their their reach in the western countries is

extremely limited, if they were covered in national media, you would instantly

read the promotion about it on their own website with media references and we do

not see this.

Dear Liz

The misunderstanding about the posts being deleted is already resolved,

with the messages having been dug up and stored as a file. However,

author does not recollect having written anything about him. Will you

be kind enough to post the link, message serial number or the matter

itself where you noticed it. Even if you inform the date on which such

a message was posted it is adequate, since maintains complete

record of approved or rejected messages. This is important, as

otherwise there can arise some misunderstanding in the moderators of

this group, which should not occur, having worked together for many

years, with only soul-to-soul communication.
