Guest guest
Actually, I must thank you Raja, for giving me a reason to probe Hippocrates works a little more deeply. I was reading his text " On Airs, Waters, and Places " , and found it very enjoyable and insightful. I encourage all Ayurvedic practitioners to give it a read, and for interests sake: http://classics.mit.edu/Hippocrates/ airwatpl.mb.txt Much of what he writes can be easily understood from an Ayurvedic context. Interestingly, Hippocrates does make mention of the influence of certain stars on weather patterns, which I find very interesting: " For knowing the changes of the seasons, the risings and settings of the stars, how each of them takes place, he will be able to know beforehand what sort of a year is going to ensue. Having made these investigations, and knowing beforehand the seasons, such a one must be acquainted with each particular, and must succeed in the preservation of health, and be by no means unsuccessful in the practice of his art. And if it shall be thought that these things belong rather to meteorology, it will be admitted, on second thoughts, that astronomy contributes not a little, but a very great deal, indeed, to medicine. For with the seasons the digestive organs of men undergo a change. " Although Hippocrates makes reference to the stars, these were clearly coordinated with earth-orientated events, such as the change in seasons, as was the original Jyotisha. In this respect, the stars were used to track the passage of time, and indicate the change of the seasons and weather. It is clear to me that seasonal changes, and the activity of our sun, has a much greater influence on our heath than stars that are millions of light years away. Now of course the stars are no longer in the same position as during Hippocrates' time due to precession, and thus his advice about specific stars would no longer be applicable. I am sure however that Hippocrates would encourage us to look up into the sky, and continue to track the seasons with the stars. Perhaps what astrologers should do nowadays is to find new stars to coordinate earth's seasonal changes, instead of trying to coordinate the seasons to star positions that no longer exist. Guest guest
Dear Todd I am reading opinions of many about use of Vedic Astrology in Ayurveda. Every one is presenting with supportive evidences which are interesting. I am practising both for last 12 years. Though I have concentrated on only health aspect of Vedic Astrology I will say my knowledge is too short to construct it into scientific terms. In my opinion the way which helps masses should be accepted as a practise. To put it into scientific terms should be left for them who have insights in both sciences. To build any thinking as a science is a continuous process of many years and some times of generations.
