Guest guest
Hi, My 9 year daughter had MRI in June 07 that showed cerebellum degeneration. Doctors suspects for a genetic condition Ataxia Telangiectasia , a progressive genetic disorder. She has other conditions: Slurred speech (sometimes), poor reflexes, red veins in her eyes During August 2006 her Immunoglobulin were normal with minor deficiencies of IGg2. However, in October 2007 her Immunoglobulin levels have declined with lowWBC and high alpha-fetoprotein She was born caesarean and weighed 2.6 kg, she mostly lived in Lucknow. She was healthy in her first 6 months then she got very high fever and thereafter she became fussy eater and remained underweight most of the time with instances of pneumonia, cough and cold In April 2002 we came to Canberra Australia, she gained lots of weight till March 2003 when she got Atypical Pneumonia (Mycoplasma) After that she used to had running nose and coughing most of the time In 2004 Chest CT scan was done and in 2005 bronchioscopy was performed, both came normal In 2005 grommets were put in her ears, after that she had lots of fevers and discharge from ears. That subsided when grommets cameout by itself In May 2006 we moved to Sunshine Coast, a city near Brisbane In August 2006 she developed Haemophilias Influenzae infection in lungs and was admitted to hospital where intravenous antibiotics and physiotherapy was done. CT scan showed bronchiatasis. Now she is on antibiotic azithromycin and we do physiotherapy for chest, she got rid of coughing and running nose that she has since last 3 years In Feb, 07 her lung function test was 52% which improved to 69% in Sept 07. From June onward she is practising Pranayama and probably that has increased the lung function. She was tested for the AT gene, test came inconclusive in June. Again she was tested in August but that test result is still pending (this gives us some hope that her condition will not be that severe or she won¢t have that) By first look she appear normal girl with normal weight and height and she is very happy girl with intelligence and good memory Recently I came across a research paper on this dissease that suggest that most of the conditions are acquired because of oxidative stress in the body resulting from low production of SODs and probably use of antioxidants may help. Presently I am trying to give her foods with more of antioxidants including those that can cross BBB. Please suggest something for her. Guest guest
Though your daughters history shows cerebelium degenration, her immune system appears weak from childhood itself. Antioxidants will definitely help restoring this deficiency. vision, hearing and balance of the body is taken care in a single cranial nerve, hence all these issues are related. Daily or alternate day neti with warm saline water, Nasya with a specially prepared indian cow ghee, breathing technique to increase CSF production and panchgavya medicines were used to make a brain tumor (causing symptoms of speech, vision, balance, similar to what you have mentioned) dormant for a 20 year old boy. This case has been mentioned in archives. Unbelievable power of Panchgavya medicines is being noted only in last 10 years and Vadyas are slowly adopting them. When you come to India next, visit this author to learn the breathing technique and neti/nasya procedure. Till that time continue using pranayama and anti-oxidants available to you. Many cases of sinusitis, frequent skin erruptions, frequent cough/cold/fever showed wonderful results when anti-oxidants were used. _________________________ My 9 year daughter had MRI in June 07 that showed cerebellum degeneration. Guest guest
Dear Dr Bhate, Thanks for going through my email and providing useful suggestions. I will see you when I will be in India. Presently I am trying to follow a concept of Ayurved that " Food is medicine and medicine is food " . So I am colllecting nutrient and antioxident information about differetn foods. Can I give my daughter Brahmi and GotuKola, both have got something that has got something to do with Cerebellum. I was able to get dry leafs Brahmi and Gotukola, but is it right to give that as a herbal tea to a child? Further would you like to suggest some more things that can be done in terms of diets for her. I am trying to avoid any suppliments unless prescribed by an expert. Further, will it be alright for a 9 year old to do Jal Neti, I used to do it while I was in India but here it is hard to get the neti- pot but can be arranged. Unfortunately, Panchgava medicine will certainly be hard to find here as pure cow milk is obscure here. Regards San When you come to India next, visit this author to learn the breathing technique and neti/nasya procedure.
