Guest guest
Hello Vaidyas: I have a 2-yr old who does not like to eat at all. We have tried to feed her everything that we can, but she only likes things that we do not give to her, e.g. candies, chocolates, etc. Recently my sister gave her some chewable vitamins and that, God knows how, seemed to have helped a bit, but the situation is still grim. She has lost weight and I am concerned. I was wondering if there is anything that Ayurveda offers like an oil message, an herb, a rasayana, etc. that would help her. The problem again is going to be for her to like whatever it is that I would like her to try, but if it is in small quantity, I can manage. So, please advise. Thanks in advance, Deepti
Guest guest
Loss of weight, cravings for typical sugary and refined floor foods is a pointer to parasites (worms) or candida. check if any of other symptoms also exist 1. itching near anus 2. irregular hunger 3. mucousy stools, semi solid consistency 4. wetting the bed during night 5. small white spots near belly, arm, thighs 6. grinding teeth in sleep 7. saliva dripping from the mouth, especially when getting up morning 8. irritability, tantrums 9. stomach pain sometimes many other symptoms exist, they were covered in a previous post titled " parasites ambush vaidyas " , but search limits search to only last 1 year posts, author cant give you link to this post. Does she eat/like curd-rice? If you confirm some of the above symptoms, author will post some home remedies or some ready formulation, depending on your location. If parasites is the issue, no tonic, massage, rasayan will work. Parasites will of course become stronger. _____ I have a 2-yr old who does not like to eat at all. Guest guest
Here are the answers to your questions: > 1. itching near anus Not really, but she itches a lot near her clitoris. > 2. irregular hunger Yes. > 3. mucousy stools, semi solid consistency Yes. > 4. wetting the bed during night Yes. > 5. small white spots near belly, arm, thighs Not really. > 6. grinding teeth in sleep Have not noticed yet. > 7. saliva dripping from the mouth, especially when getting up morning Not really. > 8. irritability, tantrums Yes. > 9. stomach pain sometimes Don't think so otherwise she would cry at least. Regarding liking eating/liking curd rice, I have not tried that on her, but few days ago, she had plain curd that she liked. she has been running a fever every now and then over the last few weeks. First time she had fever, we tried to give her herbal teas, lots of water, etc. and she recovered. Next few times, we didn't have a choice but to give her antibiotics as she just did not take water or any herbal tea at all. It just so happened that after a few times, the antibiotics stopped working for her! I hope this helps diagnosis of the problem better. Please let me know what you think it is. Home remedies would be great as I live far off from an Ayurvedic pharmacy -- though if I really have to get something from the pharmacy, I can manage that too. Thank you so much, Deepti
Guest guest
Hi Deepti and Jayashri Noel (assumed age of your son less than 10 years) Your replies indicates suffering from yeast infection. Medicines indicated for Krimi also work for yeast infection. Making medicine from a mixture of herbs may be difficult for you. Follow dietary precautions given in the post: http://health.ayurveda/message/2981 has given many suggestions, important in western lifestyle. Give boiled copper water in warm condition to drink. Since age is just 2-3 years, one tablet of Krimikuthar Ras, crushed and mixed with honey in a cup can be licked by her 5-10 minutes before meal, or even in the middle of meal. That makes it twice a day. If you cant get Krimikuthat ras, use Vidangarishtam, 1 tsp with equal water after meal. Pharmacy medicine course should run for 40 days. Drum stick soup is a supportive food item in such cases. Bitter gourd, ridge gourd soups also help to some extent. If you can get some of the herbs mentioned in above link, you can mix them in equal proportions and give 1/2 tsp with honey twice a day. Kadu(Kutaj) is indicated as she has mucousy stools. Neem bark powder or leaves powder can also be thrown in. Bilvadi Avaleha mentioned in above link also can be given 1/2 tsp if available. Home remedy is to take a bud of garlic, crush in a cup, add 1/2 cup curd which is not sour, 1/4 tsp turmeric and give first thing in the morning. If you get fresh turmeric rhizome, its juice can be used instead of turmeric powder. no food for 1 hour after curd is taken. This eliminates yeast in a matter of two weeks. The itch near clitoris will reduce in just 3-4 days, which will tell you that you are on right path. Local application of this medicated curd also helps for vaginal thrush. Curd should be made from raw milk if possible and in an earthen pot (uncalcined) if available. While curd is contraindicated in parasites, it becomes medicine if taken with garlic and turmeric. It will not cause cold, swellings, increase in joint pains, as most people attach curd in contraindicated items with these ailments. Avoid all sugary sweets, adopt all bitters, but not for more than a week, as hemant rutu is running. Chemical free Jaggery and honey are exceptions. When you buy honey ensure that residual taste ( in 2-3 minutes) is bitter and not sweet. you will see how many commercial brands fail on this test, even world wide. rasam made from fresh Ginger+black Pepper+onion gratings with a pinch of asfoetida and black salt mixed will serve a good appetiser and will reduce ama on which yeast/krimis thrive. One feels light in the stomach after taking this drink in warm condition. Good digestion takes care of the parasites. Taking antibiotics for every fever, cough and cold lands one into a more difficult problem of parasites/yeast. and pathogens become more trained to digest antibiotics. fever, cough, cold are bodies reactions in cleansing itself, fear of moms allows babies digestive and immune system suppression by english medicines. All these suggestions can not substitute the check up and local advice by a vaidya. ____________ 1. itching near anus Not really, but she itches a lot near her clitoris. 2. irregular hunger Yes. <snip>
Guest guest
No one can make a child eat, sleep or deficate. I would try compromising with your child. This is an issue of control - we all need to know that we have some control on somethings in our life. If you could find some healthy 'candies and snacks ' and let her choose one PRIOR TO EATING for AFTER SHE'S EATEN her healthy meal, she may come to eat more and more often. don't losd up her plate and expect her to eat lots of food. Put less than you'd think she'll eat so this is successful and she feels she has accomplished a good feat. Kids want to plz their parents so it may be a win/win situation. You have a strong willed child and she needs to know her wants and needs are honored. Best of luck, Chamae ___________ I have a 2-yr old who does not like to eat at all.
